I should have mentioned that the first credited screenwriter is Bill Lancaster (son of Burt; he also wrote Carpenter's THE THING; nice guy, but died some years back, before his father I think) and the other two guys wrote BAD SANTA. www.revolutionhometheater...ears.shtml

I think they need to bring back "B" black and white second features OR SOMETHING. Park, stand in line usually, herded in like cattle, ten minutes of BASS HEAVY trailers, then the film. then exit. usually dropped 30.00 by now. the film will be out on DVD in six months for 19.95 or less on ebay or amazon. no MOVIETONE NEWS, no cartoon. I will polite draw a veil over the usual audience today and their "manners". cell phones do have vibrate mode but that does not stop the owner from talking.

I think it will be really fascinating to watch an actor give a realistic portrayal of this very unique person that I grew up watching on TV and in the movies. I'm a fan of Cameron Crowe and left the theater incredibly SHOCKED that he would release something like this. This was the biggest mess of a film I've seen in a very long time. I got out of the theater less than an hour ago and I'm still trying to figure out what the movie was trying to do and trying to be.

Nov 1 05 12:11 AM Burgomaster Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Nice review of THE WEATHER MAN, Bill. I must confess I went this weekend expecting to see something along the lines of ANCHORMAN II. I think a lot of the audience had that expectation, too, because there were a few grumbles midway and even a few walkouts! Not because the film is overly grim or depressing -- it actually isn't -- but because it seems that way. It's the kind of film that is so dead-on accurate about life and family and hopes and disappointments that at times it is hard to breathe. You expect totally dreadful things to happen, but in the end only perfectly normal things happen. That's the bizarre energy at work, and it is quite effective. Even though it can be kind of a chore to sit through -- like one of those oh-so-precious, good for you Bill Murray movies -- this film is smart and at times VERY funny. There are fantastic performances by Cage, Michael Caine and, especially, Hope Davis. And I found myself still thinking about various scenes -- tartar sauce especially -- days later, and that is no small thing. So no. This is not a raucous send-up of TV news. But it is a fine film that will stay with you far more than much of the competition. david

"It is pointless to catalog the other empty performances. Whatever meaning the book once had is defeated by one of the worst examples of screen direction in recent years and is crushed beneath gargantuan, tasteless production." LOL A CLOCKWORK ORANGE is an evil film. YELLOW SUBMARINE gave me a new cinematic experience, and I think it may give you one, even if you dislike the whole idea of the Beatles as much as I. Truffaut was give every cinematic resource. Result: a mess of ineptitudes, a boring picture.
