2006 would have been a year where several classic horror movies would have slipped into public domain under the old laws (Frankenstein, Dracula, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde). In 1999 Congress passed the Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act which extended copyright protection for corporate authorship from 75 to 95 years. My guess is another extension will occur in 20 years and the copyright will be endless.
You would have seen the DVD market flooded with cheep copies of some great movies this year. I actually like the copyright protection because that protects some great movies from having cheep copies that may or may not be complete. There would probably be cheep copies of Frankenstein that did not have some of the censored scenes in them. Some people might not appreciate some great movies as much because they watched a bad copy of it. What are your thoughts?
