Absolutely. I have the Danish cut, and there is no sign of green slime. Also missing is the crudely drawn animated farmer that REPTILICUS swallows in the AIP cut (my personal vote for worst effect ever).

Yep, that one always gets a laugh. Makes it look like the monster has an appetite for cutout paper dolls.

It does indeed and it's pretty bad. There is also a romantic subplot that isn't in the AIP cut. My favorite addition though is a song and dance number “Rep-teel-ee-coos” that the janitor does with a bunch of Danish children. It's absolutely priceless! No subs though, so you have to be pretty strong-hearted to watch it all the way through.

For the benefit of the Danish-challenged, here’s a translation (not mine):


“Tilicus is an awesome imaginary animal. It will attack even the largest trunked animals. It is wild. Spits fire. Scares even a smoked fish.”

(Children in chorus:) “Come on out, Lille Pus*, who’s afraid of Tilicus?”

“On its back it has a bunch of large scales. If it shows up, everybody screams goodbye. Sharp nails, a wingspan at least a kilometer wide.”

(Chorus)

“He who sees my Tilicus he gets shocked (afraid). When it walks it dances a slow rock. It is angry, unnormal, snaps people from the fifth floor.”

(Chorus)

“Tilicus can fly fast like a jet plane. Now look there, it suddenly brakes up hard.”

*“Lille Pus” means something like “little thing,” often used for babies and children and such.

Note that the creature’s name in Danish is Tilicus. No doubt the extra syllable was added to the American version to sound like “reptile.”

At least Reptilicus has the distinction of being the best giant-monster movie ever made in Denmark!

That reminds me of Fantastic Voyage, which had some good FX for its time, and some that were pretty bad even by 1966 standards. One particularly egregious example is the “white blood cell” that devours the trapped and helpless Donald Pleasence and then engulfs the entire submarine — it’s obviously nothing more than detergent suds! The matte shot of the crew growing back to normal size at the end of the picture is also just terrible.

One of the cheesiest-looking miniatures is the spaceport in Antonio Margheriti’s space opera I criminali di galassia (Wild, Wild Planet). It looks like something made from a kid’s construction set plus a few odds and ends. The monorail cars are fuselages from Boeing Chinook helicopter model kits. And the “ray guns” that shoot propane flames are a hoot. In some shots, you can see the hose snaking up the actor’s sleeve.
