"Isabel" (with Jayne Mansfield's "boy toy" Micky Hargitay) bounces from one psychedelic, expliotative scenario to the next with such fervor that you're liable to get "WTF" WHIPLASH! (His take on the giallo genre, "Delirio Caldo" a.k.a. "Delirium" is also rife with his trademark "sleaze & violence") Bryan

Jun 7 07 11:45 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have a new fave "WTF" flick, which I watched in full for the first time last night (though I had seen bits of it over the years): BOP GIRL GOES CALYPSO (1957) "Rock singer" Judy Tyler is seduced into leaving R&R behind and joining the burgeoning Calypso revolution by scientist Bobby Troup (!), whose high-tech "Applause-O-Meter" proves conclusively that Rock is dead and Calypso will take its place, much to the consternation of two-fisted nightclub owner George (Jetson) O'Hanlon and Eugenics acolyte Margo Woode, who wants to bear Troup's child, in the interest of Science. And it's all played straight. The main non-Calypso centerpiece music act is from The Goofers, who play while swinging from a trapeze, and sing from inside coffins. Uncredited Buddy Rich can be seen drumming in some scenes. All is guided by the mighty hand of Howard W. Koch (FRANKENSTEIN 1970). Marshall Crenshaw's capsule review in his book, HOLLYWOOD ROCK (1994), says, "Never watch this movie". --Forbidden fruit! Also, many movies from producer Albert Zugsmith rate high in the WTF ledger, particularly: CONFESSIONS OF AN OPIUM EATER (the supreme example) THE GIRL IN THE KREMLIN THE PRIVATE LIVES OF ADAM & EVE SEX KITTENS GO TO COLLEGE INVASION U.S.A. THE BEAT GENERATION GIRLS TOWN HIGH SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL COLLEGE CONFIDENTIAL

Jun 18 07 8:55 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	One of my earliest WTF experiences was Steve Hawke's blood-drinking turkey monster opus BLOOD FREAK. Although it only has some marginal sci-fi elements, another fave is the William Witney/George Armitage flick DARKTOWN STRUTTERS -- a blaxploitation/biker flick with cloning, KKK bikers with crosses on their bikes, an antebellum plantation in the middle of Los Angeles, a pudgy Col. Sanders lookalike in pink leotards, a character that can give people veneral disease by touching them, a drug dealer with a frozen 'pot-cicle' stand, kung-fu, sequins, The Dramatics singing "Watcha See is Watcha Get" in a dungeon, and Dick Miller as a racist cop. I invited some people over to my apartment once and showed them DARKTOWN back to back with THE CRIPPLED MASTERS. They were astounded.

Another classic "WTF" blaxploitation film would be "Welcome Home Brother Charlie" (probably better known as "Soul Vengeance") which appears to be a fairly standard issue, EXTREMELY low-budget , poorly acted urban action/drama, that is of course until the PENIS STRANGULATION SCENE!!!!!!!!!!! Jun 20 07 10:33 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	LIVE FREAKY! DIE FREAKY! A take-off on ZARDOZ, in the post-apocalyptic future, a man finds a copy of the book Helter Skelter in the desert. The movie then retells the story of the Manson Family murders as a comedy with animated puppets! Afterward, the man takes the book back to his camp where society will progress with the book as the new bible. The movie is incredibly crazy and energetic, but I also found it entertaining the entire time I was scratching my head, going "WTF?" Another WTF movie: SALO. DOCTOR 13

Jun 21 07 2:11 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Probably my first real "WTF" moment was as a 10-year-old,catching Ken Russell's TOMMY at our local theater's midnight show,I wasn't really up on my Who at the time,I just went because the poster looked cool.By the time Ann-Margeret was covered in baked beans,my little brain was well and truly fried.Or the "Acid Queen" sequence with Tina Turner,It's only recently that I have been able to watch it a second time,and appreciate it.

After the astounding success of Easy Rider, the studio gave Dennis a million bucks and let him do whatever he wanted. The result was an incomprehensible mess that didn't make a dime. Hopper was out of the business for awhile, and made a comeback with Blue Velvet.

In spite of all those seasoned actors, the only person I thought had an entertaining part was Reba McIntyre (the NEWEST actor in it, except maybe Liv Tyler). And that was because by playing the analyst, she got to underplay it. The same with Danny DeVito in "Drowning Mona." You know that a comedy is trying too hard when Danny DeVito is almost the only one who's allowed to underplay his part! I think that any film that finds a new spin on the scary rural family idea is a good thing. And I think that any film that works Rogers and Hammerstein jokes into it, and makes them something other than a string of incredibly predictable GAY jokes, is some kind of a miracle.
