Aug 27 07 10:12 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	For those unfamiliar with him, Sidney appeared on a semi-regular basis from '72-'75 on Captain Ernie's Showboat, a popular local children's program on WOC-TV, channel 6 in Davenport, Iowa. Being from New York, I wasn't lucky enough to catch Sidney in his prime but I think I may have located his long-lost brother... Dick Miller and friend from AMAZON WOMEN ON THE MOON.

Nov 12 07 12:02 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Well here is something that might be of interest to this thread: Opening on December 7 of this year, I'll be the narrator for a stage version of "A Christmas Carol." But the the connection is this- I'm going to portraying Charles Dickens and will be accompanied by my vent figure (C. Sydney), who will also be portraying Charles Dickens. Strange huh? But, will see if it will come off. Oh, by the by, the Ghosts will be played by puppets as well. Large puppets, that will require several people to control. Eventually, there will be pictures and if you go to the Stage Coach Theaters web-page; stagecoachers.com, you can view those pix.

It was based on a Bradbury story and featured Claude Rains as the mad ventriloquist Fabian. His dummy is a glamourous female who wears a tiara and sounds a bit like June Foray. If you're an Andy Milligan fan there's no hope for you.

It's probably a topic for another thread, but that moment in MAD LOVE ranks for me as one of the creepiest moments in any film; right up there with Brember Wills' close up in THE OLD DARK HOUSE where his subtle facial expression change lets us know he really is insane. Not exactly a ventriloquist, but Ron Hull and His Emu was certainly one of the more bizarre puppet acts to grace 70's TV programs such as The Hudson Brothers (shudder!) . Hull died several years ago from a fall from his roof while adjusting his TV antenna. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if it turned out that emu had thrown him off the roof... If you're an Andy Milligan fan there's no hope for you.

You may recall back a few paragraphs, I mentioned my working with my vent figure on this production. I did take some digital pictures myself, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to post them here.

With all of my ventriloquist-based horror watchin', I must admit I didn't see that ending coming until very late in the game. The dummy's temper tantrum is extremely creepy, as these things go. Starring Beneath The Planet of The Apes' very own James Franciscus in the title role as the blind detective, the series featured none other than Bruce Lee as his personal trainer. Someday I may actually get to see those episodes. Post edit: I just ordered the Longstreet episodes featuring Bruce from E-Bay and got, as a bonus, a copy of the film Marlowe, starring James Garner, with a guest appearance by none other than, you guessed it, Bruce Lee. Here's a shot from THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN episode, "The Talkative Dummy". Unfortunately, there's no supernatural goings-on here. The ventriloquist is merely used as a conduit in his act to pass along coded information to some gangsters in the audience. It's a shame really. Some of those b&w first season SUPERMAN episodes were really creepy. Ah, what they could have done with this subject! -Rob-
