Apr 13 07 3:45 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I remember being spooked by DEVIL DOLL many years before I ever saw the movie. My older brothers had me call the drive-in where it was playing. A taped message of Hugo saying "I walk...I talk...I kill" combined with a creepy newspaper ad campaign was my first brush with scary ventriloquist dummies. In the years since, I've seen most of the films and TV shows talked about on this thread, and finally DEVIL DOLL itself on AMC (before that channel went completely to seed) and more recently on DVD where it looks great and with a nice commentary track, too. Oh, in one of the old Monogram Charlie Chan movies, a ventriloquist dummy was used as a murder weapon! A poison dart would shoot out of the dummy's mouth. Ingenious. And did anyone mention the SIMPSONS episode featuring Gabbo, the dummy that almost put Krusty the Klown out of business? Gabbo (he had to be a reference to the old Stroheim movie) has shown up at least a couple times on the show since.

I've always found that introducing a new girlfriend to my hobby by watching a horror film with her is a great litmus test. If she's enthusiastic or at least open to seeing it with me, she's a keeper. If she makes a face and says something like, "What do you want to watch something like THAT for?!", well, then I know our days are numbered. Sounds like Sherri passed the test with flying colors. Congrats, Rats! I wish you both all the best. Spoiler II - Welcome to the CHFB. I think you're really going to like it here. When I first joined about five months ago, I was absolutely amazed at the depth of knowlege that I found in thread after thread. It's the only board I know of where you can post a question and have it answered by a noted author, filmmaker, artist, historian, publisher, actor or fellow movie fanatic. Hope you enjoy every visit here. By the way, that 16mm short you mentioned sounds terrific! Resurrection Joe II - You're right about the DEVIL DOLL DVD, a great package all around with a nice commentary track by Tom Weaver. Tom even stopped by to add his thoughts to this thread way back on page 1. Thanks very much for the info on the Charlie Chan movie. I'm going to have to research that one and hunt it down. Can anyone name all 3 of these characters ? I only know one. But who do they look like ? I say Guy Rolf, Jimmy Hunt, and Half Human.......... :-)

If it was the 60's, I'd say that kid's a ringer for a young Ron Howard. I'm not that familiar with Guy Rolfe so I'll pick John Cassavetes and the more I look at that monkey, the more he reminds me of Edward G.

Put a beret on that monkey, and it be a scene from Soylent Simian Green. (LOL) The series is from the 60's..it was a joke post I did in the 50's folder. Gerry Anderson I think is correct. Maybe his first hit show in the U.S. Let's see if someone comes up with the correct answers, cause I don't have them all..........

Sure looks mighty interesting... If you know of any graphic novels or good horror fiction with living ventriloquist dummies, give the Doc a holler, willya? Well, I'm flying down south for an extended family visit today so this'll be my last post for quite a while.
