Apr 12 12 10:31 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Despite earlier comments about the lack of Japanese stop-motion, there's actually quite a lot of it to be found if you know where to look. GODZILLA VS. BIOLLANTE had some deleted scenes that used stop-motion to show Godzilla fighting Biollante's tendrils. From what I understand, the 70's Japanese series MAJIN HUNTER MITSURUGI exclusively used stop-motion for its monsters and SPECTREMAN once battled a stop-motion dragon called Midoron (which was reused from the JAGUARMAN pilot). The short film KAMEN RIDER ZO, which actually got a dubbed release here as a SegaCD game, also featured some stop-motion monsters. I seem to recall rejected footage of a stop-motion car from a Toho space battle film, but can't remember which one. Getting back to the US, regional obscurities like WINTERBEAST and MUTILATIONS are said to have a healthy dose of stop-motion. Both original creations and modified versions of the Crater Lake Monster, a LASERBLAST alien and a Beetleman from FLESH GORDON were used in a stop-motion film designed for use in a line of motion simulator rides. The company behind that film (MONSTER PLANET) also did another one featuring a stop-motion sea monster called THE BERMUDA TRIANGLE. There's stop-motion in there all right: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1D76M-28AJ0 The making of Winterbeast is a story in itself. Not a particularly pretty story, mind you, but it does give a certain insight into how things sometimes happen in the grungier corners of the bargain basement of the film industry.

For example, the film edited down to form the final segment (THE NIGHTMARE NEVER ENDS) originally used a brief shot of a rubber snake creature at one point that was replaced with a claymation demon for the NIGHT TRAIN version. Didn't THE HOWLING have some deleted stop-motion scenes? It looks like three feature length movies were edited down to make up this omnibus horror film, SCREAM YOUR HEAD OFF (aka MARILYN ALIVE AND BEHIND BARS in a different cut ), CARNIVAL OF FOOLS (aka DEATH WISH CLUB), and CATACLYSM (aka SHIVER, THE NIGHTMARE NEVER ENDS, SATAN'S SUPPER) said to be available from Troma under the first and third titles).

Some claim it was actually unfinished and was quickly edited together to form something vaguely releasable (not unlike THE MUMMY AND THE CURSE OF THE JACKALS). Sadly, that the extent of my knowledge on that particular film. You are correct about the names and separate availability of the other two films. horrorfilmx, Thanks for the interesting trivia about claymation. Have you seen NIGHT TRAIN TO TERROR? The condensing of the three movies creates unexpected jumps and juxtapositions that are quite funny if you can laugh at ineptitude. At certain points the movie is nearly incomprenhensible. It's a train wreck (no pun intended) and probably best seen in a group. On the IMDB page for NIGHT TRAIN you can access the board postings. Squonkmatic posts some good info about the various incarnations and video releases.

Well Atomic Mystery Monster, there was one scene in GODZILLA VS. DESTROYAH where a bunch of Destroyah crabs scurry across the frame. Let's not forget KING KONG VS. GODZILLA where the giant octopus's tentacles grab the natives and Godzilla kicking Kong. You forgot ATTACK OF THE SUPER MONSTERS or the TV show IZENBORG ACE where there are some stop motion monsters.

Is Squonkamatic still active at the IMDB? I used to talk with him a lot back when he still posted at the Latarnia forums and have been wondering whatever happened to him. MovieMatt, Man, I haven't seen GODZILLA VS. DESTROYAH in ages! I really should revisit it; When was the stop-motion scene? I skipped mentioning the stop-motion stuff in KING KONG VS. GODZILLA as it had already been mentioned earlier in the thread. I forget where I read this, but I heard the stop motion battle scene between Godzilla and Kong was included as a tribute to Ray Harryhausen's Dynamation films, which were doing extremely well in Japan at the time. As for ATTACK OF THE SUPERMONSTERS, I only saw part of that and must have missed the stop-motion stuff. But, now that you mention it, I had forgotten to note the use of stop-motion animation in RETURN OF THE DINOSAURS (a compilation movie of the series KYORYU TANKENTAI BORN FREE/DINOSAUR EXPLORATION TEAM BORN FREE).
