Oct 8 05 1:58 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	When I was growing up. I was a big fan of a Hanna-Barbera 'toon called WACKY RACES. Goofy people driving goofier cars across goofy terrains. . . and goofiness ensues. I bought the toys and the comic books, and I was crushed when it didn't show up the next year. When they announced it on DVD, I was all psyched up to buy it, but fortunately, I caught it on Boomerang before it was released. And, much to my surprise, my tastes have changed dramatically. Good Lord, did this show ever stink! Almost aggressively un-funny, WACKY RACES deserved to be cancelled. Man, when I was six years old, I had no taste at all!

Oct 9 05 8:00 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I was a 70's kid (born 1967), so my favorite cartoons were: Scooby Doo Goober & The Ghost Chasers Clue Club The Amazing Chan & The Chan Clan The Funky Phantom Superfriends The Groovie Goolies Hong Kong Phooey I've gotten many of them (or at least several episodes of each) on VHS in the past few years. Talk about a Saturday morning time machine when I pop 'em in the old VCR! My brother, who is ten years older than me, loved Johnny Quest. I've since caught several episodes and it is AWESOME!

Sep 24 09 6:29 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Next to Jonny Quest, The Herculoids was my favorite Hanna-Barbera action cartoon. I kind of remember 1 scene from Shazzan. There was a scene where the 2 kids were threatened by a cyclops and they summoned the genie Shazzan, who clobbered the cyclops with a pair of cymbals. Space Ghost confused me because he looked too much like Batman.

The POTUS would, in times of (generally dinosaur-related) crisis, slip into a secret chamber behind the Oval Office, and turn into a superhero! I loved the show, though it's tough to imagine LBJ in that role (maybe Bobby Kennedy). Yes, it's a real show, circa 1967. Right before parents' groups neutralized the Hanna-Barbera action shows (episodes like the Space Ghost where Brak's head is caught in a space-ship's hatch and Blip jumps up and down on the door, causing little drops of drool to drip from the unconscious ape-wolf's mouth didn't help).

But these days, Boomerang has thrown in way too much of '90s Cartoon Network slop. I understand why, but couldn't there be overnight blocks of classic H-B action fare? What would it hurt?

Filmation did their take on FANTASTIC VOYAGE the next year, with a cool version of the Voyager ship that also had a cool model kit. It fetches a lot of cash nowadays as it was only issued once by Aurora. The similarity to STAR TREK's animated series is no accident as it was a Filmation production as well.

Sep 19 10 9:52 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Has anyone here mentioned Danger Island? It was a live action show with every episode about five minutes long, on The Banana Splits. It was a pretty strange mixture of an escapist adventure show and a genuinely dark one in places. Along with well-known TV actors like Frank Aletter and Ronne Troupe, it had a very early Jan-Michael Vincent, and was directed by Richard Donner. (It also had a very "non-ethnic" black character - not something incredibly uncommon in 1968-69, but still, uncommon enough.) I've been seeing a lot of it lately on Boomerang, though a whole lot of it would've stayed with me anyway.
