I was watching the extra bonus stuff on the first Scooby Doo movie with real people and the director said that A&C MEET FRANK was his inspiration for it because it was both scary and funny at the same time. Plus in this, The monsters are real, not a man in a mask. "And I would've gotten away with it too if it weren't for those meddlin' kids and their dumb dog." Now BRIDE is good but it has issues. I belong to the "Hate Una O' CONNER CLUB" I felt her role was totally unnecessary and burdensome to the plot. She simply makes the film drag for me. I love SON but I agree it's too long. The dialouge between Wolf and Krough make it long and tiresome. Karloff doesn't get nearly as much screen time as he could've. And I feel Ygor's role gets to be a bit much as well. So Mine would be Frankenstein A&C MEET FRANK BRIDE SON FMTWM HOUSE OF FRANK GHOST (Don't think I ever saw House Of Dracula) This would be my fave list but I don't know exactly how I would rate BEST. I rank GHOST dead last because I just didn't care for Chaney as a suitable person to come after Karloff as the Monster. Lugosi sucks too but FMTWM is kind of amusing because of the festival of wine scene with the singing. Plus it's intresting how Dr. Mannering meets and gets involved with the Baroness all in one night. They even had a mattress in the Castle she was laying on which makes me wonder if he did indeed spent all his time in the Lab. WHOOPS gotta keep this forum clean don't we?

Bride's mastery is sadly hampered by Una's inecssant, whiny, screeching. For all of Whale's genius, he shoulda cut her scenes down to one tenth of what we are subjected to. At the very least, tone her down a wee bit, huh? Never was crazy about Praetorius' "Little People" neither. Totally unnecessary and disappointing in my blinders' on perspective. Having said that, Bride is still the Ultimate Universal Masterpiece for other reasons...

Jan 27 07 11:46 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The "little people" thing was stupid too. It made the plot cartoonish. BRIDE needed to be as serious as FRANK was. The musical score was cool. The subplot about Karl being a serial killer might've worked for me too. But Ernest Thesiger and Una O' Conner just makes the thing really silly. If I was James Whale, I would've worked to make the sequel reflect the spirit of the first but I would've mainly concentrated on the creation of the Bride and the Development of the Monster's new vocal and reasoning abilities because those two things are what I felt the film had going for it. Everything else was pure fat that needed to be trimmed away. But I guess old Henry needed someone to coax him into the lab again so... I suppose Dr. Praetorius had his place. The self destructive lever also seemed to be a cop out but again, They needed to end it somehow. I always wondered why, In SON, the Bride was never mentioned. It's like that whole part of the story was forgotten or something. They say the Monster was destroyed years ago, but they never say how. Plus there's the detail of the lab being in the backyard instead of in the old tower in the woods where it was located in the first two films and the thing about the sulphur pit. They changed it so drastically that I can see why some don't care for SON very much.

But Hey Lenny, Crazy as this may sound (is there any sound in e-space?), and with the proper mindset, why don't we do the unthikable and produce/direct our own version (in B&W, of course) of Bride, but without the unnecessaries. A serious film that would follow, nay, pay true homage to (seems to be the word of th' day) and unlock the Unbelievable potential Bride of Frankenstein has to offer? Imagine the possibilities! Nobody's had the guts or talent to even try this. Financing's always an issue.... P.S. Who wants to sub for Elsa? I've already got a Karloff in mind. Fellah lives on the next concession road. Walks, talks, and even looks like Boris! He just hasn't been made aware of this yet...

Jan 28 07 1:44 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I've seen all the Frankensteins, and have them all on DVD (except A&C), but the only ones I ever watch are the first 3. And of those 3, I find it difficult to choose between them. They're all very above average flicks that have different things going for them. Frankly, I like to marathon those 3 whenever I want to watch any of them. I'll probably revisit Ghost/MTWM/House later, but I'm not too excited by the prospect

We'll get rid of O' Conner's character and the "little people" I'd also like to see Elizabeth punch Pretorious right dead in the face. Right after she breaks free and comes after Henry. Henry opens the door, The Monster is standing there, about to pull the lever, Elizabeth walks over and tells the Monster to wait a moment, turn around just belt Pretorious with a solid left hook. Just send that gawking old guy onto the floor so he's humiliated AND he's gonna die. "Now you can pull the lever after we leave." She says. Is it my imagination or does the lever seemed to look like a baseball bat? Everytime I watch the movie, it seems to be shaped like a sanded down baseball bat.

Jan 28 07 4:39 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	1 & 2 - FRANKENSTEIN & BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (ex-aequo) 3, 4 & 5 - THE GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN, FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN, A & C MEET FRANKENSTEIN (ex-aequo) 6, 7 & 8 - HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN, SON OF FRANKENSTEIN, HOUSE OF DRACULA (ex-aequo) Some notes - Una O'Connor and Ernest Thesiger are essential characters in "Bride", as is the homunculus sequence. Without them, it would be another movie, I agree - but WITH them, "Bride" is an absolute masterpiece, and for most of moviegoers, even better than the first "Frankenstein". For me they are both brilliant works, offering two visions of the Frankenstein myth. "Son of Frankenstein" has great sets, wonderful characterizations by Bela Lugosi, Lionel Atwill, etc. But the Monster is almost lethargic most of the time, Rathbone is miscast and sometimes awful in his playing, the plot is static, Donnie Dunagan is unbearable, the new costume of the Monster is a bad idea, the movie is far too long with interminable dialogue sequences, and most of it - Rowland V. Lee is not James Whale !

Everybody involved was at their creative peak in this one. From Boris to Whale to Pierce to Waxman, this picture has it all! 2. SON OF FRANKENSTEIN The final "A" picurre in the series. And we get Bela's Ygor! 3. FRANKENSTEIN Couldn't see rating the original lower than third. 4. FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLFMAN The opening sequence at the Talbot tomb is worth the price of admission by itself! 5. HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN Two words, Moster Rally! 6. HOUSE OF DRACULA I like the Dracula storyline in this one. 7. ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN Another Monster Rally but this time Bela plays Dracula, the way he should have in all of the Dracula films! 8. GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN I like Jr., but I just never boiught into him as The Monster. As an afterthought, I mentioned above that Bela shoiuld have been Dracula in all of the Universal Dracula films. I've heard others lament his not being cast in Son of Dracula, House of Frankenstein and Houise of Dracula. So, why don't we hear the same comments about Boris dropping out of The Monster role after Son of Frankenstein? Do you think if he had stuck aroiund the series for a while the quality of the remaining films would have been better???

Seriously, whose idea was that? It looks terrible. I also agree on the Donnie Dunagan thing, but that goes without saying. Besides, Donnie was no worse than Una, at least to me. I cant stand her. Hell, that might prompt me to put the first Frank over its sequels; neither of those characters are in it!

House of Dracula Just watched "Bride of Frankenstein" last night after watching the James Whale biopic "Gods and Monsters". What a classic piece of movie making. Top notch cast, story and thrills.

I do agree that though the beginning of FMTWM with the two grave robbers is pretty cool. Look, we all have different tastes. I love A&C MEET FRANK whereas some of you don't. Which is cool. I hate Una & Ernest whereas some of you love them which is okay. I love this; you love that. These rating threads are kinda silly because they all lead to arguements about our personal tastes.

I post on some other forums, and whenever people make list threads (whether it be favorite band, favorite video game, whatever), most people never seem to acknowledge other people's lists. They just post their own and never bother reading anyone else's, because they're just there to see their own words on the internet. So the whole thread is just an endless stream of vanity that never gets read. But on this board, people do read what you have to say. What you call arguing, I call interacting. I enjoy having people recognize my views and give their own thoughts, even if it is a blatant disagreement with me. Because it's nice to know they actually read what you have to say, even if it's something as minor as your opinion on horror movies. Now if it was something petty like "you're an idiot for not liking Una, she was a fine example of 30's comedy and you just dont get it." that's what I would call arguing and I would hate that too. But people here dont display that kind of attitude, and it's refreshing compared to how immature most of the internet is.

Jan 29 07 5:00 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I thought that what Abrobic said rang fairly true as well, so I decided to add up the numbers to this point in the thread and see how these films rank for us taking all of the posts into account. This is how I did it; there are 8 Frankenstein films and each film was given a point value of 8 to 1 depending on where it fell on each poster's list. Some voters ranked some films equally, to tally the points on these films I added the total number of points possible for the slots they would have filled and divided it by the number of films given equal ranking. This resulted in some half points in the final results. Additionally, at least two posters gave no value to several of the films. No point values were given to these films for those poster's comments. This is what I found; 1. The Bride of Frankenstein 267.5 points 2, Frankenstein 244.5 points 3. Son of Frankenstein 189 points 4. A&C Meet Frankenstein 181 points 5. Frank Meets Wolf Man 147 points 6. Ghost of Frankenstein 114 points 7. House of Frankenstein 97.5 points 8, House of Dracula 62.5 points If others vote as this thread continues the figures should be updated from time to time. Bride of Frankenstein had the highest number of first rankings with Frankenstein following close behind. I was surprised by how Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein consistently came in with high marks on a majority of the votes. I always viewed it as a novelty. And, Son of Frankenstein was pretty consistent in it's rankings as well with three of us putting it in first place on our lists. There ya' has it!
