Apr 22 12 3:05 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Just looking at these two sculpts here side by side and to me seeing a real difference in quality and sculpting ability. Does anyone know who sculpted each critter in this instance? The head on the right is from Revenge, right? I mean, I don't remember the second suit looking that...different in the films. Apr 22 12 3:13 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Wow. The difference between the suits from CFTBL and REVENGE is substantial, the latter being far inferior. Any known reason why Universal did this?? Seems less costly to just recycle the first suit. REVENGE suit looks amateurish in comparison. Maybe Westmore decided to step up and actually do some (shoddy) work for a change?!? Whaddya know, Mr. Weaver??? "Supernatural perhaps...baloney, perhaps not!"

Apr 22 12 5:25 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	As I wrote earlier, it's not even close. The solidity in the construction of the larger shapes, and the subtlety of the sculpt of the original in general blows the second piece away. Any chance they used the same suit but changed masks?

Apr 22 12 6:20 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It looks like parts of the original may have been used for the new suits, but many features are remarkably different. The shoulders of the Revenge suit have large knobby ridges not found on the sleeker original. The crotch on the Revenge suit is considerably lower than the original, making Creech look stubby and frog like. The fins are less refined on the Revenge suit as well. Apr 22 12 7:38 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Not only does the Creature look doofus-y in the second movie (new suit, made a different way), they didn't even take the time to get all the bubbles out of Ricou Browning's suit before they'd start filming him in an underwater scene. So for the whole movie, he's got bubbles appearing out of the top of his head like a giant aquarium aerator. Every time I watch his scenes, I can't look at anything except the bubbles pouring up out of the top of his head.

Apr 24 12 10:23 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I was freeze-framing a REVENGE trailer on Youtube and comparing the Revenge creature with my Sideshow Creature From The Black Lagoon and there are some other differences. The fins on the back of the feet are more pronounced on the Revenge suit, the claws are longer on the hands and it looks like the fins go higher up on back of the head.

Apr 28 12 5:06 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	As much as I enjoy turning up new info on old monstuh pitchas, I enjoy even MORE "taking out the trash" -- dispelling old MISinformation. How many times have we read that creating the Gill Man suit took eight months (or a year, or whatever Universal made-up)? I just got a-hold of the Universal paperwork from the day when they did camera tests of the first suit, the one with the face that looks like a pollywog -- and they were done at the beginning of September. A day or so to develop the film, for the executives to look at it, to talk about it, to reject it, to ask the makeup dept. to come up with a new suit -- several more days, obviously. Well, the Gill Man suit as we know it was tested in early October. So the suit in the movie was dreamed up and designed and made in ... well, probably not much more than three weeks, four weeks tops. Which, IMHO, is even more marvelous than the idea of the work having taken eight months.

Not to send you into any research that is not necessary, but off hand do you know how that suit build time frame compares/contrasts with the development schedule of the first suit? Clearly, at least to me, the second suit did look like it was slapped together. Also, and under the category of Further Minutia, didn't Westmore still have the original molds to the first suit? Would it have made sense to just slush some new pieces up instead of starting from scratch? I mean, why waste money and man hours for three weeks when the molds might have been right there? Especially if the same suit-wearers where in place, right?

Apr 29 12 12:49 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Now that I've got more info about the making and testing of the various Creature suits, even some of the dates, I'm going to be re-interviewing Ricou Browning and hope to come up with a few more answers. Bizarre: I've found that throughout pre-production, Universal was regularly sending payments to some freelancer (Frank something ... I can't think of the last name right now) for "Gill Man suits." A guy that I never heard of, Bob Burns never heard of, apparently NObody ever heard of. I'd love to know who he was and what he did. If it turns out that Ricou doesn't know, then we may never ever know.
