I kind of agree -- (we're talking about that gizmo where you may have thousands of random tunes at your convenience, right?) I'm old fashioned in so many ways, and I like ALBUMS! Not just a wide mish-mash of selected tracks, anything just randomly thrown together, no "concept theme", no more album covers, etc...

I got it for her for Christmas, and it's just about the only piece of entertainment-related technology (aside from her computer and a portable CD player) for which I've seen her take complete control. She doesn't seem to know how to turn the TV on, change channels, or play a CD in the living room, but she uses her iPod while she's working, sewing, exercizing. She likes to listen to old time radio mp3s on it, as well as music.

Feb 21 05 5:56 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I'm so with you here Joe. It's just one more way to make our lives generic and bland. Album covers, artwork, liner notes about the musicians and music, kiss it goodby, also limiting the broader scope of music you will enjoy. How many times have you bought an album and found that one or two of the cuts that you knew nothing about quickly became your favorites on the record. Usually I would say, they are a cool little toy, but it's this very same "kind" of technology thats quickly putting the record business in the grave. Once record companys can't make enough money selling CD's, they'll stop putting money into bands and soon you won't have much new music to download into your little ipods.

I've downloaded the entire score from the Jonny Quest TV series, the scores from Superman and Lost in Space, hundreds of Bing Crosby albums; Clyde McCoy, Guy Lombardo, Bix Biederbeck, and lots of spoken words albums: all of Rathbone's Poe records, Gielgud and company doing Lear; Christopher Plummer's Cyrano; Errol Flynn reading The Three Musketeers. I've only had for it about two months now, and wonder how I got along without it!

My son has stored some 7,200 songs on his, took about 27GB of space, and daughter some 5,000. Yup, from their CDs . . . didn't realize they spent so much $ over the years on them! Mar 2 05 3:06 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I just got a mini ipod for my wife. She loves it. I'm not partial to the mp3 sound. Its too harsh on my ears. I'm sure this will be remdied some day. Digital can be sample at 96 or 106 khz. cds and mps are sampled at 44.1. I'll miss record and CD albums and sleeves but my money says otherwise. The single is the natural state for rock-n-roll anyways. The "concept album" was always bound to be temporary.

Oct 22 05 6:10 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I've got an iPod mini, and I love it. A word of warning, however. This is my second iPod. The first one didn't survive a trip through the washer and dryer in the pocket of my jean jacket. Clip it to a belt, or a shirt pocket, but don't just drop it into a pocket.

Oct 24 05 5:01 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	OK, so I'm totally in the dark about this technology. How can one of these gizmos work as a home stereo? I mean can they be played through home speakers? I have a home unit and great speakers. I would really hate not being able to crank up those 14 inch woofers (remember BIG speakers?) if I am forced to change to this way of listening to my music. God I miss my youth :(
