It was only years later, when someone noted that without the cut scenes that the audience might think that he had done something more vile, that I thought, "Oh, yeah, I can see where they could get that impression."Maybe it was my youth, or the era, or perhaps I was just naive, but the "worser fate" scenario just didn't cross my mind. Is there anyone else out there who saw the edited film from around the same time period as a youngster who did think that he had done anything more heinous than accidentally drowning her?Gadfly

Just about every scene Edward Ellis is in, whether snarling at his mistress or walking down the street in the light snow.

This is where there is a dissolve in the film from the killing of Waldman in progess to Monster walking down steps in watchtower.http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2sk4z_frankenstein-1931-trailer_creationthis is a link to Daily Motion video of Frankenstein trailer which has footage of the Monster leaving the operating room after killing Waldman at about 00:22 to 00:24Putting them together, there had to be more of Waldman's murder than what was shown in the completed film. Is it possible this additional footage of the murder was removed due to censors? Or was it trimmed out just to shorten the film?Anyone have any information about the conclusion of Waldman's murder footage? I take it wasn't on the BFI copy used in the 1980's , because if it was, it would have been restored.

No rain. I recall it, always, just as Craig describes.

As a kid I just figured he'd drowned her, but perhaps intentionally for reasons we didn't know. It never, ever crossed my mind about "molestation". In those days kids were still innocent and a lot of that type of stuff was a mystery and kept hush-hush from them. (Not to say there was not child molestation occurring at the time, but I mean sex was not all over the place on every channel and so kids were largely unaffected and unaware, as it should be)
