Dimension X was originally a sustainer on NBC and featured some of the most faithful adaptations of science-fiction stories done. Whenever the story origin featured descriptive text instead of dialogue, the text was made into dialogue for the radio series. Norman Rose had a commanding, deep voice and the productions were top-notch. Sadly, it did not last long.

Years later, NBC revised the series under a new title, X-MINUS ONE, again as a sustainer. They reused the same scripts from the DIMENSION X series (though some dialogue was edited briefly since the former series was 30 minutes and the later series was 25). After they used up most of those productions, they began using new scripts and molded from the original short stories in the same fashion as DIMENSION X.

If you compare the two series and see the same story title for both, listen to the DIMENSION X version. I do not recall any X MINUS ONE version being a superior production when they reused the same script.

With 125 episodes of X-MINUS ONE recorded and broadcast, you may not have time to listen to them all so here are a few recommendations to start with (the essentials):

"Tunnel Under the World" (September 4, 1956)
Episode #66 (64th episode recorded)
Stars Norman Rose and Bob Hastings (remember Captain Video on TV?) Beware of the March 14 broadcast of the same year. It's the September 4 production that is considered by many as one of the ten best science-fiction dramas ever produced.

"The Discovery of Morneal Matheway" (April 17, 1957) A cute ending to a time travel story you won't see coming.

and

"Shock Troop" (November 28, 1957)
You might catch the twist ending before it is revealed, but an excellent example of a not-for-kiddies drama.
