May 7 04 7:09 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	If you could have any one toy that you owned or wanted to own when you were a little monsterkid, brand new, in the box, never been touched by human (or inhuman) hands, what would it be? I would have to go with the Marx remote control Frankenstein that I had.

Dec 6 04 7:25 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I remember having a Lost in Space Robot, grey body with red arms and clear plastic bubble top head. You could move the levers in back to make the arms open and close and push a button to make a light in the speaking panel light up. I loved that toy, but in the 2nd grade I made the mistake of taking it to school and playing with it during recess at the top of the slide. I bumped it and........crash. Broken forever. And I couldn't find another one with grey body and red hands, so I never got a replacement. That's the one I'd like to have back. Doctor 13

Dec 6 04 11:30 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Happily, I've been able to retrieve the monster toys I had as a kid that ever meant anything to me. But for many years, I longed for my old inflatable Sinclair dinosaur (a gas station promotional item from the early 1960s, which my mother and I always visited en route to the drive-in, where we saw KING KONG VS. GODZILLA, PANIC IN YEAR ZERO, THE RAVEN, etc.). Shortly after getting online, someone directed me to a source for them. My Sinclair bronto shared my office with me till I got tired of looking at it and taking up precious space; it wasn't like I could climb onto its back and ride it around the room anymore. Another toy I missed, Frankenstein Loses His Pants (as seen in CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND!), Donna got me for Christmas 10 years ago or more. He resided on our living room mantle until he stopped working... the nieces and nephews loved to push his button when they came over, but now he's living in our attic awaiting a time when his functioning becomes a priority again. Unfortunately or fortunately, these days I don't have time for toys... I'd rather have posters I can't hang than toys I don't have time to enjoy or the space to display.

I also had the Frankenstein who loses his pants which I thought was cool looking but I could never quit get past that it didn't look like the real Frankenstein. Something else I'd love to have again is the little wind-up clacking skull I got for sending in the wrappers from the Spooky Stories bubble gum cards. Here's part of a slide I found a while back of Christmas 1961 at castle Gamula. Besides Garloo, you'll see a Sinclair Dinosaur and my first Aurora kits, Frankenstein and the Wolf Man. That Flintstones toy is some kind of ball and mit but I don't remember it either. Guess that says a lot about me. I don't have the slightest memory of most of the stuff there, but I'll never forget getting those monsters for Christmas. *Count Gamula*

Dec 10 04 2:02 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	two topys I wish I still had: Fireball XL5 with space city and figures - have you seen what it goes for now?? and Godzilla, or at least something like Godzilla, it was a dinosaur toy that moved and had a target on its tail, you shot the target with a dart gun and the dinosaur turned 90 degrees and shot a plastic ball out of its mouth. I was about 5 when I got it for Christmas and have no idea where it went to. Today is only Yesterday's Tomorrow

Dec 14 04 9:33 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Nothing fueled my monster-kid play like this set of eight plastic fellas I had in the 1960's. Although me and my buddies recognized these figures to be "Creeple People" (our slang for inferior sculpted/molded toys that failed to do justice to their real-life counterparts), this was the most satisfying group of monsters to be had until Marx released their bigger (and miles-ahead better!) set of plastic monsters later on in the decade. However, when they did, Marx failed to provide us with such esoteric fare as Gorgo, It! and the Ray Harryhausen Cyclops, as this playset did! The Frankie was undeniably short and pudgy, but facially he was an acceptable Glenn Strange or Lon Jr. version of the monster. The Dracula actually resembled Bela but then so did, too, the Wolfman (!) -- in our neighborhood enactments Wolfie was always called upon to substitute for Ygor! The Creature was a wholly acceptable likeness of the Gill Man (one could quibble, however, about his being molded in red!). As stated earlier, the real treat here was It!, Gorgo and Uncle Ray's Cyclops! These three were probably the most satisfying likenesses of their film counterparts. The King Kong, to my mind, sort of favored the goofy-faced Toho ("King Kong Vs. Godzilla") version, but he came with a miniature "Fay Wray" (not pictured), that he proudly palmed as a trophy! This playset excelled in the "monster match-ups" you could enact! At last, the Creature could gain admittance into the Universal "House Of..." films, and -- best of all -- King Kong could square off with Gorgo (as he had with Godzilla), or even the Cyclops!!!

I had those Palmer monsters, too, 'cept my Kong and Creach were blue and my Gorgo was red. I also had fun with the large-size MPC Pop-Top monsters. You switch heads from one figure to another. Dec 14 04 3:25 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Gee, Gary, we must be of a similar "vintage" (i.e., long-in-the-fang "old fogey" monster kid!). I really enjoy the "Gallery of Monster Toys", too -- I just wish there would be an updated 2000 ("00's?" wing), that would cover all the current Sideshow Universal Monsters and X-Plus Harryhausen stuff! (I have regressed to my "2nd childhood" with these new toys but, at my age, it's hard to tell from the general senility).

I still cherished the little guy (which I still have) but wish now I'd had a proper teething ring. I also wish I could get my hands on that set of WIZARD OF OZ puppets that came with laundry detergent.
