I inherited these from a friend who sadly passed away too young, so it's partly an homage to him as well. He was an avid film collector, and these are almost all sound versions - I have around 50 horror and sci-fi titles. SAM33

Jul 22 10 9:01 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Great-looking set up, Sam! Kind of reminds me of some of the displays over at Steve Osborne's house. (Steve publishes The Reel Image, and is the U.S distributor for England's Derann and Classic Home Cinema Super 8 and 16mm releases.) He's even turned his basement into a small theater, complete with concessions!

I thought I would be efficient and put all the films on large 400' reels-so I spliced them together. Threw away the boxes.....WHAT WAS I THINKINg??? I wasn't. Sad commentary on my collection.... "I saw what I saw when I saw it!"

Jul 25 10 1:02 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Some 20 years ago -- well into the VHS era, mind you -- my young son talked me into buying an 8mm projector at a flea market, and we bought a few of these to use with it. After having to buy matrerials to splice the inevitably broken film again and again, I was very happy when he outgrew the fascination with the projector. I'm not sure where I'd have found a replacement bulb. It's fun for a few moments as a curiosity, but be glad for what you have now!

Nov 29 11 12:59 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	All you 8mm and Super 8 showmen will get a kick out of this: On the new DVD of DESTROY ALL MONSTERS from Tokyo Shock, the stills gallery includes a shot of the box art from the old Ken Films 8mm digest of this classic Godzilla title. Better still, there's a hidden Easter Egg that actually lets you watch the old digest!

Don't know why, but those titles and Roger Corman's THE UNDEAD were almost non-existent in my area. (I've seen the UNDEAD digest, when a buddy of mine found one. They rearranged some of the events to make the story work as a digest, and I recall thinking at the time they did a clever job.)

Dec 1 11 10:46 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	There was lots of Kaiju available on Super-8. GODZILLA VS THE THE THING and GHIDRA THREE HEADED MONSTER come to mind, both from Ken. Also FRANKENSTEIN CONQUERS THE WORLD, YONGARY MONSTER FROM THE DEEP, BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE, and DESTROY ALL MONSTERS were all available in silent and sound formats. A German company released an 800' print of GODZILLA VS THE SMOG MONSTER (dubbed into German) that has the word FRANKENSTEIN on the packaging. There's probably more. If you go to ebay Germany (http://www.ebay.de/) and type in Super-8, you'll find all kinds of crazy, drool-worthy titles that will make you wish you understood the language (a 400' version of KILL BABY KILL is on there right now! - it has the word DRACULA in the title... and so is THE OBLONG BOX) I've brokan down and bought german-dubbed cuts of GRIZZLY and HARD TIMES. The color in these always seems better in films I get from Europe - They must have used a more stable film stock.

Pretty much all of those were from Ken Films, except for Columbia's BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE (the only one available silent in color). I wrote Ken Films when I received that reply from Johnson Smith and they wrote back "Sorry, we don't have that title."

Dec 29 11 3:48 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	There were actually two reels from GHIDRAH from Ken Films: GHIDRAH THE THREE HEADED MONSTER and BATTLES OF GHIDRAH (although the actual title card on the film reads BATTLE OF THE MONSTERS). The two Ghidrah reels, and the digest of FIRST MEN IN THE MOON were squeezed images, so if you owned an anamorphic lens for your projector you could project these as widescreen images. (I've heard rumors that a non-anamorphic version of one of these was later released due to customer complaints, but don't know if that's true or not.) Didn't know there was a 400' KILL BABY KILL, but I do recall a digest of Italy's PLAYGIRLS AND THE VAMPIRE (a nice companion piece to Ken Films VAMPIRE AND THE BALLERINA). Digging back through some of the earlier FMs, I'm surprised at how many obscure 8mm film companies and digests that were out there for varying lengths of time. (BLOND GORILLA taken from WHITE PONGO, and JUNGLE WITCH taken from NABONGA, a 200' version of THE VAMPIRE BAT, among others.) Didn't know about INVASION OF THE SAUCER MEN, but didn't someone do a digest of INVADERS FROM MARS?
