Aug 1 08 9:59 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I don't know, Mr. Glut, comic-book companies seem to be coming around to a notion the rest of us have known forever: It's not the age of the creator, but the story he or she tells. Dark Horse got some great work out of Gene Colan on the Predator line a few years back, Roy Thomas is writing adaptations of classic literature over at Marvel again, and Cary Bates is back with a mini-series from Marvel. If there is a new series, it would be a crime if you weren't involved.

Dark Horse sems to be a little bit different from the typical comic company, run by folks who (I think) do have an appreciation and love of old comics more so than the Marvel or DC folks... I could see something actually happening with the original creators. Though I guess at this point we don't know what their full plans are - I think Scott Allie will be at Dragon Con this year, if I see him I'll ask specifically about Dr. Spektor! Joe would get back to drawing dinosaurs again instead of "weird creatures" in the TOR books; and also 2. brush up on his paleontology (e.g., a sauropod is a kind of giant dinosaur, not a giant croc; a sabretoothed cat has a very short tail and is not a tiger, so probably no stripes). I think we're probably going to have the opportunity to have a sensational year. We have a lot of exciting new projects. One I'm dying to tell you about but I can't until we sign the contract. But we have a big crossover event coming. We have the launch of the Classic Media characters: Doc Solar, Magnus Robot Fighter, Turok, Mighty Samson, and Dr. Spektor. New titles and I'm telling you they look great. We're going to try and create some excitement in a field that seems to have gotten a little bored. We're going to have fun with these characters, and launch some new characters along with them so it's going to be fun. We've got Jim Shooter writing some of the books and we're very excited. How many titles are you going to do? Over several months period we'll introduce five titles. Ongoing or miniseries? Ongoing. Our Free Comic Book Day issue features Magnus and Solar. I was just looking at it. It looks sensational. I believe prior to this only Solar, Magnus, Turok and Mighty Samson had been confirmed. No word as to whether this revival would also signal a Dr. Spektor "archive style" reprint ala the Solar/Magnus/Turok ones from Dark Horse.

I'm another huge fan of Gold Key comics...they were very underrated in my humble opinion. Jesse Santos was a great artist with a very unique style. Gold key had several other good writers and artists. I have a large collection of Gold Key comics and really love them. I'm 53 years old, unlike my bio..ha! So, I was there when Gold Key was in its heyday. Gaylord Dubois is a big hero of mine. Russ Manning blew me away with Magnus and Captain Johner. I guess that Don has answered most of the Spektor questions so I will go in a slightly different direction and ask him if he has any thoughts about the Solomon Kane tales he did for Marvel. I LOVE Solomon kane...there were so many possibilities there that were never realized with that character...although there is a movie out there somewhere?

I've never been a real fan of sword and sorcery, even though I've written a lot of comics feature S&S heroes (DAGAR, KULL, worked a [very] little on CONAN, "Tales of the Hyborian Age," etc.). And of all the S&S series I've worked on, I think I enjoyed KANE the least. I just didn't like the character -- how he looked, how he behaved, etc. Just a job. Nevertheless, Dark Horse recently published a volume of collected SOLOMON KANE stories, many by me; and soon will be a collection of KULL THE DESTROYER. Don
