Lady Tottington wrote:This is SO strange---we are talking about The Diamonds, I said I think the lead (Somerville) is still around and, just about when I write it...he dies. I guess I shouldn't make any observations about people being alive or dead---the Tottington Curse! The odd thing is that when I looked it up to report to everyone here, Wikipedia (always known for 100% accuracy) and one other site, had him dead in June of 2015, joining all the other original Diamonds. Wikipedia had him dead of cancer in California. But, the link ewrik kindly provided does, indeed, show a photo of Dave Somerville. I wonder if he was aware that, according to Wikipedia ---as of 6 a.m. this morning---he has been dead for two years. " Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated!"
On a happier note, it is true that the Beau-Marks were not widely known in the U.S. But, their song "Clap Your Hands" was a hit, and they did appear on Bandstand and, I think Ed Sullivan. It is a really nice upbeat song. If you tune to 50's on 5 on Sirius, you will hear it now and then. I haven't attempted it, but I am sure that you can find it somewhere on the web, too, if you don't remember/have never heard it.

Now Five Man Electrical Band is another Ottawa old time band and they still play once in awhile. I worked with their drummer's wife for years.

In short, it is the kind of song my daughter rolls her eyes at and which I enjoy. I understand every word clearly, the words are in no way offensive, and it is just what it claims to be: a happy bouncy little ditty. That's it.
