The Boy and the Beast (Bakemono no Ko) (2015)
A nine year old boy runs away from home to an alternate Universe where animal spirits live, and trains as an apprentice for nine years with a warrior beast that has the opportunity to reincarnate and become a god, to be decided in a fighting contest.
A very nice story, that seems to either have some bits that don't quite fit (when he goes back to his biological father,) or as if bits were taken out for the sake of length (it already is two hours long,) and wasn't quite edited well enough after that so that some aspects were left dangling.
Lots of computer aided animation (obvious in crowds, cars) but it doesn't look artificial and cold, and the rest of it has that slightly simplified TV look.
Check it out.
Boy and the World (O Menino e o Mundo) (2015)
A little boy goes out into the world looking for his father, after he leaves his rural village looking for work.
Abstract, slow, no dialogue, overlong, emotionally stirring but intellectually undemanding animation feature.
See the beautiful images and try to stay awake.
After a few days I could not even remember what the story was about and it took an effort to remember.
You will have to be in a certain mood to be able to make it thru in one sitting. Not really recommended.
