The Japanese arm of MGM (in conjunction with Stingray Video) has already released an "ultimate edition" of "Food of the Gods" in Region 2 last year, so the prospects of a Region 1 release are good (at least a "barebones" edition) If I'm not mistaken, the rights to "Red Planet Mars" (one of the more underrated "Cold War" sci-fi films) are held by Warner Brothers. For the most part, the Turner holdings have been distributed by Time/Warner, but I'm not 100% certain. Hopefully, SOMEONE releases it!! Bryan

Why, then, are some films released in Europe and not over here? Stuff like Witchfinder General and Food of the Gods, as already mentioned--but what about The Nanny, which 20th released as a "studio classic" in the UK last year? What the heck's the difference between us and them? And why would Disney release "Song of the South" overseas and not in the US, where we're dying for it? Do they actually think our sensibilities are different over here when it comes to topics like racism? My God, if someone in the UK can "handle" Uncle Remus, why can't we? Make no sense to me! Rod

I believe The Brainfollower asked what else would make a good MM release? Hmmm, where to begin? Before DVD Drive In took down their save the Midnite Movies petition they had a ton of good titles listed as potential candidates. If there's any way to still find this list then I'd recommend having a look. I also say another post on this thread where someone was asking if they'd issue any of the old single disc Midnite Movies as double features. Personally, I hope so!

Although I also own some of the films on excellent quality Region 2 discs (Blood on Satan's Claws, Food of the Gods, The X from Outer Space) some of the Region 2 titles, however, are in dire need of upgrades (Sugar Hill, The Burning, Witchfinder General {mind you, Witchfinder isn't bad, but it doesn't meet the standards a film of its pedigree deserves}) The films I would really "saw off a limb for" are some of the more "wonky" titles like the sleazy "Blood and Lace" or the "so guilty you should get the death penalty" pleasure, "Octaman" And just to confirm my sanity, Dhtreptow, YES, "House That Screamed" would be most welcome in a "definitive" release.
