Quote:I loved 30 Days in Hell so I'm looking forward to this.
Now that Rob Zombies HALLOWEEN has broken big-screen box-office records (see updated item here), its probably not too early to start thinking about what the filmmaker has in store for the movies DVD release. And he confirms to Fango that if you loved the feature-length 30 DAYS IN HELL documentary that accompanied his DEVILS REJECTS on disc, We shot one the same way during HALLOWEENs production. Theres probably even more to it than [30 DAYS] had, because that one worked so well, we were like, Oh yeah, lets do it again.' So were actually editing that right now.
Fans can also expect to see a good deal of deleted material, including cameos by horror greats that didnt make it into HALLOWEENs release version. Adrienne Barbeaus scene will be in there, he tells us, and this big parole sequence with Udo Kier and Clint Howard. I always kinda get carried away and stuff too many people in there, and film too much. Then [in editing] I go, Well sad as itll be, Adrienne [wound up on the cutting room floor]. You know, I get so excited, like nows the chance to work with everybody all at once. Like Rutger Hauer. I actually wanted Rutger for [his GRINDHOUSE trailer] WEREWOLF WOMEN OF THE SS at one point, but it didnt work out. Roy Scheider was someone I really wanted to get into HALLOWEEN; Charlie Martin Smith was another one who was almost in there, but there was a scheduling conflict.
Theres also a lot of intricate stuff with Dr. Loomis and little Michael in the sanitarium that will appear on the HALLOWEEN disc. Because I wanted it to seem real, what I would do was I would tell Daeg Faerch, who played Michael, what to say, but I wouldnt tell Malcolm [McDowell, as Loomis] what he was gonna say, so his responses would always seem genuine. Theres some good stuff in there.
And in the outtakes section, Zombie says youll be able to see a practical joke he pulled on McDowell with the help of Michael Myers performer Tyler Mane. I try not to make the set wacky, he notes, because people are trying to concentrate, and especially for heavy scenes, it seems disrespectful to the actors. The only prank I played was on Malcolm, and he got really pissed at me. It was on the last day of shooting, and it was the scene where hes confronting Michael and saying, Its not her fault, its my fault and going into his big read. I just felt like it was taking him too long to get through all this, and I told Tyler, Halfway through the dialogue, just grab him. Like Michael cant stand to hear Dr. Loomis talk anymore, you know? So he lunged at Malcolm, and Malcolm just screamed. Zombie grins. He was not happy.
As of now, Dimension Home Entertainment hasnt announced a street date for HALLOWEEN on DVD, nor whether the theatrical cut will be accompanied by the alternate version currently circulating through the bootleg circuit. Well keep you posted. Michael Gingold
