There were rumors that Sony would begin releasing The Three Stooges correctly this year -- i.e., in chronological sets. And apparently the rumors were true, for this has shown up on Amazon: www.amazon.com/Collection...89-6010430 Like September wasn't already expensive enough! But this set sounds reasonably priced, unlike Sony's previous Stooge sets, which were way out of line.

Perhaps this is it. I believe he mentioned that they're also planning on releasing many if not all of their features, including ones where they're supporting players like START CHEERING, THE CAPTAIN HATES THE SEA and MY SISTER EILEEN. (07/06/07 7:21 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	If Sony is committed to continuing sets, much like how they handle their season TV show sets, this will be a great thing for Stooge collectors and fans like myself. I too will perk up around 1947, as I do want the Shemps and Joe Bessers more, mainly because they are far less tired than the "Curly Classics", which I still love of course. And hopefully they'll finally release HAVE ROCKET, WILL TRAVEL one of these days!

But I'm afraid if they started with the Shemps and/or Joes, the series wouldn't last long. Let's face it -- Curly's the most popular Stooge, for very good reasons. We all know there are millions of your everyday Stooge fans who won't want the Joes at all. I like Joe Besser a lot, not just because he was funny, but because I can really relate to him: My name is Joe, too -- I'm bald -- I'm from his home town -- and I often walk around the neighborhood dressed like Little Lord Fauntleroy.

(07/07/07 3:39 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	What I like about the Shemp's and Joe's isn't necessarily even the third Stooge in question; it's just that I think I enjoy the "boys" when they're in their 50s instead of their 30s. To me there's just something funnier about a 57-year-old man trying to find his missing Crackerjack ring which fell off his finger and into the workings of a TV set, the ring that his girl got for him from out of the Cracerjack box... or a man of the same age thinking that you're supposed to jump rope in between following medicine directions: "Take 1 pill, then skip an hour". Also, the later shorts seem to have more violence and eyepokes complete with the "ukelele string" sound effects (the Curly shorts had silent eyepokes)! :D I like Shemp and Joe, but when I watch the Besser's it's Moe and Larry I'm getting most laughs out of anyway. ---------------------- "It's MORE ... than a hobby!"

His incredible timing, double takes and I'm sure ad-lib reactions just put me on the floor. His fighting stance when up against Kenneth MacDonald or Vernon Dent is absolutely priceless. I too think Joe Besser was better served in other venues. Besides Abbott & Costello he was great on Jack Benny's radio show. If you get an opportunity to hear them listen how he breaks up Benny. Unless of course they feel they've already spent enough on the Curly DVDs they already may own! I still liked my idea of three "decades" collections instead - 30s, 40s, 50s. I figured the 30s would be a no-brainer to sell well for Curly, but then Curly fans would have to buy the 40s set too, as would the Shemp lovers. Later on, for those who don't care for the Joe Besser shorts, you'd also have Shemp in the last 50s set...... so the studio would have the first two compliations doing very well, with the third possibly being the one for all the diehards. Not just when it comes to Home Video, but in so many areas, it's just businessmen who know next to nothing about the product making the decisions (based only on money considerations, of course.) If it's true only Curly will sell well -- and all the Curlies are out already -- the odds of this series making it to the end are close to zero. Maybe each set should be a Curly Year with a Shemp/Joe year. 1934/1947 -- 1935/1948 -- 1936/1949, etc. In fact, that would work out perfectly, with the last set being 1946/1959. It seems to me that system would have maximized their revenue, with no Curly or Shemp/Joe fan able to pass up a set! Hey, Sony, hire me or Karlosi!

I would have bought them but I couldn't tell what order things were in plus they cost too much. In fact, I was recently going to give in and buy one, but when I went to the store it seemed they were OOP, along with the older ones. Honestly, if these were bare bones and cheap, say like the Uni Abbot and Costello sets, I bet they could make some decent coin. Also, as much as I love extras it might be more realistic in regard to get a complete set released.
