Aug 11 05 3:44 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I've been on vacation, and enjoying some quality monster kid time each and every day of the last week and a half or so, and it's occured to me just how lucky we are to have this wealth of great genre films available on DVD to watch whenever we like... Sure I have fond memories of pouring over the TV Guide every week and booking the family TV for any Sci-Fi or Horror flicks I could find listed, but I've really been reveling in my DVD collection this summer... For instance, over the last ten days I've watched Bride of Frankenstein, Zombie 2, Lost Boys, Creature from the Black Lagoon, I Bury the Living, Night of the Demon, House of Flying Daggers, The Golden Child, White Zombie, The Incredibles, Carnival of Souls, The World is not Enough, Cat People (Lewton) and The House on Haunted Hill... Some of these I've enjoyed with my kids, and some I've enjoyed alone, but either way it's been great to have them here available at my whim... It's an embarrasment of riches! We're really very, very lucky...

Aug 11 05 3:56 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I'll second that! With my extensive VHS collection plus DVD's, I've gotten sorta used to not having cable TV anymore. And it's nice not having to wait for someone else to decide when I get to see my favorite movies. I just saw THE INCREDIBLES a week or so ago, and was blown away. It was about ten times better than I thought it would be -- definitely one of the best movies of the year. Another new movie (to me, that is) that I've watched recently was BELA LUGOSI MEETS A BROOKLYN GORILLA. Plus, I've watched the FRANKENSTEIN, WOLF MAN, DRACULA, and MUMMY series all over again as I do every couple of months or so. Oh, and also PLAYGIRL KILLER with Bill Kerwin, THE KILLER SHREWS, GIANT GILA MONSTER, BATMAN:THE MOVIE (with Adam West), FRAILTY, SEVEN, THE DEVIL BAT, WHITE ZOMBIE, and THE ABYSS. Legend, oh legend, the third wheel legend...always in the way.

Thomas Howell) THE WINDS OF WAR part of WAR AND REMEMBRANCE a bunch of FRASIER episode a bunch of MARY TYLER MOORE episodes A fascinating (to me anyway) collection of effects outtakes, photos and other stuff relating to George Pal's WAR OF THE WORLDS. Aug 11 05 4:28 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Last night I watched the Japanese horror film SUICIDE CLUB and Michael Ritchie's PRIME CUT. For two random choices from my stack, they repulsed and attracted me in surprisingly similar ways. Made in 1972, PRIME CUT (starring Lee Marvin, Gene Hackman and a frequently naked Sissy Spacek) holds up remarkably well as a gritty crime picture; it's even offensive in ways that have stuck. PLAN 9's Gregory Walcott is so good in this, I didn't recognize him. And the script is by Robert Dillon (X THE MAN WITH X RAY EYES, MUSCLE BEACH PARTY, William Castle's OLD DARK HOUSE)!

Aug 11 05 4:40 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Mike Brunas and Rich Scrivani were here the other day and we had a zip-a-dee-doo-dah good time with a triple-bill of the 1942 THE GREAT IMPERSONATION with Ralph Bellamy and Evelyn Ankers (a non-horror remake of the semi-horror 1935 GREAT IMPERSONATION), DARK INTRUDER and the 1934 Monogram JANE EYRE with Colin Clive.

Aug 11 05 6:41 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I've been watching BATMAN episodes galore for the past couple of months; I'm very near the end of the 120 episode run. Also recently watched WHITE HEAT, THE AVIATOR, THE FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS and A PLACE IN THE SUN(all thanks to Netflix).

I actually wrote a review of the DVD, and will eventually post a link to it. EOLOMEA is unquestionably made for adults, but it's pokey with about enough plot for a half-hour TWILIGHT ZONE. There's also a Funny Robot about as annoying (and believable) as Twiki, even though this one doesn't actually make jokes.

Aug 11 05 7:46 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	"Cute" robots seemed to have been a bane for East European Science fiction films, long before R2 and C3PO made it an unfortunate cliche here as well. They also turn up in Planeta Burga, First Spaceship on Venus and apparently Ikarie XB-1 as well.

Ryan and BixB remind me that I have to re-watch some of my Marx Bros. stuff, and Cowboy Beebop would be nice to see again, but I think the kids want to go through all 52 episodes of Fushigi Yugi first... To think that if any of us asked the same question 20 years ago, we'd probably have been hard pressed to name five genre titles from the last two weeks! Wonderful! ;-)

Aug 12 05 9:54 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Just got finished watching the new Fox dvd of "Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte." That was fun! I found the trailers especially interesting. There's a scene in the film where Charlotte accuses her cousin Miriam (Olivia deHavilland) of being a "bitch." In the trailers, that very same scene appears, only Charlotte says "tramp" instead of bitch. The line isn't dubbed, you clearly see Bette's mouth moving! Rod
