Jan 11 06 6:35 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tomorrow will mark the 40th anniversary of the original airing of the first BATMAN episode, "Hi Diddle Riddle", which introduced the Caped Crusaders to the world of television, and probably saved the character from permanent cancellation(so even those who find the show too campy have something to celebrate, as there likely wouldn't have been any O'Neal/Adams, Miller, Tim Burton or BATMAN BEGINS without this show). It's amazing that the show remains popular so many years after it originated, and is the most requested television show to be released to DVD that hasn't appeared yet(this year would have been a golden opportunity). Happy Anniversary, Dynamic Duo!

Jan 11 06 7:23 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	How well I remember that night, and all the excitement on the playground at school the next day over the new show! Somewhere, I have a faded photograph of the Batmobile from the Sixties, which I took when it was at the local National Guard Armory as part of a car show. In a bit better shape is my old LP of the soundtrack album, signed by Burt Ward. I got the album new, and it was nearly 20 years later before I got the signature. (And believe it or not, Ward was still appearing in his Robin costume! No tights, just bare legs.)

Holy Synchronicity, Bob, my faded photograph was taken at the Masten Armory car show in the sixties! A few years ago the Batmobile was at our local mall, and I actually got to sit in it. And there's no sliding in quick on that plush red Batcarpet while wearing sneakers; you need some slippery Bat boots!

I was in the 7th grade then and had seen the exciting promos for weeks: two caped crusaders smashing through a window! I just knew, in the well of my 13 year old heart, that this show was gonna rock...and I'm glad to say it fulfilled all of my expectations and then some. After its premiere, Batmania took over the nation. Remember the Look magazine with Adam West on the cover? And the Aurora kits? I also had at least two complete gum card sets, and 1966 is when I began collecting comics--DC, natch! In August, we all went to see the Batman film that hit our local matinees and thrilled to the sight of the "Bat copter" and "Bat-boat!" Whoa. As I'm typing this, I have a huge smile on my face! Much has been written about Adam West's typecasting as Batman, and certainly DC has tried its darndest to distance itself from the show. But to me--and I'm sure I speak for thousands of Baby Boomer Batfans--there is only ONE Batman, and Adam West is it! He might be a jerk at memorabilia shows and snarl at youngsters who want autographs, but it hasn't changed my view of him in the slightest. Adam, if you're reading this, take heart, old chum. Feb 13 06 7:03 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The earliest existing photo of me is as a 2-year old, wearing a BATMAN T-shirt.Now, the series isn't "MY Batman" (my tastes run closer to Bruce Timm), but there's no doubt in my mind that seeing that show when I was so young and impressionable had a lasting effect ( OK, be truthful- it probably messed up my itty bitty brain ). And I'm pretty sure that Batgirl was my first crush. (Pre-sexual, of course, but more powerful and pure because of it...)

Yeah, I think a lot of us had the "first crush" on Batgirl thing going on back then...although Ann-Margaret in VIVA LAS VEGAS or Emma Peel in THE AVENGERS were also hitting around that same era, so I'd hate to swear which came first.

Does anyone remember the BATMAN teaser that just showed the lower half of Batman's face, not the whole thing, as he pledged to uphold justice or something (kind of like the Doc Savage Oath)? I think they then cut to Commisioner Gordon's line about "I don't know who he is behind that mask of his, but I do know when we need him, and we need him now!" It didn't show the whole Batman at all, just his mouth, and I don't think it was a clip from any of the episodes. Is this available anywhere? I haven't seen it since January 1966 (just prior to ABC's "Second Season").

I do think there was something powerfully iconic about those 1960's fantasy girls, something about the time and the material they appeared in. (Biologically, I was at a more hormonally appropriate age in the mid-70's, but CHARLIE"S ANGELS and their ilk never did a thing for me, despite the extra skin displayed.

(I thought for sure I'd have that flying car by now....)

Everyone who broadcasts these on cable nowadays seems to cover the image with "coming-up soon" messages. Worse still, the shows are edited down to make room for advertising - the average TV "half-hour" keeps on getting shorter...

All I remember was a teaser with the Batmobile ripping out of the Bat Cave at top speed and something like "Batman Is Coming -- On ABC!" I was just the right age -- 12 -- when BATMAN premiered and as reader of the comic I was somewhat disheartened by the campy tone... but I watched breathlessly every week to see who the next villain would be. I kept waiting for Two Face to show up but he never did (I guess the network didn't like the deformity angle).

Mind you, at point in the comics, sometime after Harvey Kent was (or was he Dent by that point) was cured - fat chance! - an actor playing the role would be scarred by real acid switched for the prop acid in the recreation of the court scene

I was running around doing stuff, not paying 100 percent attention, but I got the idea that there's some sort of TV Land awards ceremony, or SOMEthing, coming up in the next coupla nights, and that West-Ward-BATMAN are going to be honored.
