Yesterday Washington DC area Makeup Artist Tim Davis of Stafford, VA passed away from congestive heart failure. Tim was 56. Inspired by the John Chambers makeup in the 1968 film, "Planet of the Apes" Tim developed a fondness for monsters and make believe. Tim started flexing his creative muscle acting and doing makeup and set design in his high school plays in the 70s.
Then in the 80s, he started a makeup EFX studio in Washington DC with his partner and they quickly started getting work. From commercials, to print ads to plays and even feature films, Tim was on his way to the big time. Then, suddenly, in 1990 he developed a serious heart and health condition that halted any dreams he had to follow his passion as a professional makeup artist.
In the 90s, Tim still found outlets to keep his creative juices flowing, first with short film projects for the Baltimore Horror & Fantasy Film Society (FANEX) and also with the publication of the independant makeup fanzine, Amateur Monster Maker (later titled; Monster Maker Journal).
As the years went on, Tim became more and more ill eventually having to loose his kidney and his right leg.
