Jul 27 09 5:39 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have been enjoying the Zone recently, I purscahed Season 1&2 and soon will be ordering season 3. I seem to remember an episode that I saw when I was young that I really liked alot, it was a couple trying to leave this little town but couldn't seem t get out, at the end was a littlr girl laughing over the town, what is the name of that episode and what season is it from? Apart from that, I really liked the one with William Shatner playing that creppy little fortune thing in the dinner, I also liked th one with the Hitchhiker alot.

Jul 27 09 5:46 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Speaking of Twighlight Zone what is the deal with some of the episodes being shot cheaply like a Soap Opera? Most are shot like a standard televison show at that time such as lets say Andy Griffith, but other episodes have a weird amature quilty to them which is rather odd.

Hey Alfred ~ The episode you're describing above is "Stopover In A Quiet Town" from season five (the final season of the show). The Shatner episode with the fortune telling machine is season two's "The Nick Of Time". Hey Again Alfred ~ During season two, they shot six episodes on video tape in an effort to keep costs down. The result was considered by most (particularly Serling) to be a disaster and they quickly went back to shooting The Twilight Zone on film. I haven't watch these enough to recall the tittles, I am surpirsed Stopover In A Quiet Town is from season 5, I have heard bad things about that season, is that one of the better episodes?

"Night Of The Meek" stars Art Carney as a drunken department store Santa and is one of my top five favorite episodes. "Long Distance Call" stars a very young Billy Mumy (Will Robinson from Lost In Space) as a little boy who communicates with his dead grandmother via a toy telephone and it is terrifyingly chilling! "Static" is a pretty cool episode about a man who's antique radio starts broadcasting the great old radio shows and news broadcasts of his youth. Only problem is, only he can hear them. "Twenty Two" is maybe the WORST TZ ever made. Just awful in every way. It involves an obnoxious woman who keeps having nightmares about the number 22. "The Lateness Of The Hour" is an "OK" if not predictable and dull story about a young woman who slowly discovers that she is a robot created by her father. "The Whole Truth" is a silly episode about a used cars salesman who suddenly must tell the absolute truth to his customers. Not too compelling. Personally I think season 5 is pretty darn strong. Jul 27 09 10:23 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I think Season 5 gets a bad rap too. One you left out is The Long Morrow. I know, "bad make-up job at the end," but I think that's nearly the ONLY thing wrong about it. I think the "purple" dialogue, which it's also been criticized for, actually FITS that particular story.

Jul 27 09 11:24 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Agreed, Grant. I'm fond of "The Long Morrow" as well. For me, every season has it's clunkers, it's OK episodes, and it's great ones. If anything, the hour-long episodes of season four are my least favorites, though I do like a few of them and I do own the Definitive Season Four set. The story was written by Richard Matheson and was one of the few stories that was virtually unchanged from first script to final broadcast. The only thing to change was the title. It was originally called 'The Flight'. The story always gives me a chill. "What is the Law!"

For some reason, for many years, I thought it was a One Step Beyond, then finally caught it on a TZ marathon in the 80s. Something about the plot, the the World War I setting, the clouds, vibed OBS. It had that "this is a true story" feel to it.

So far, I have sets 1, 2, 3 and 5, and I am very pleased with the quality and value of the archive shows. I intend getting SERIES 4 [the hour-long episodes] although I can't recall ever seeing these screened on terrestial UK TV. Are the longer shows on par quality-wise to the 25-30 min standard episodes, and surely there must be some difference in approach in the longer format, where characterization can be explored more fully? The popular opinion of the hour-long episodes (which were not shown in syndication when I was growing up in the 1970's /80's in the NYC/NJ area) is that there are a few good ones, but even those suffer from padding. In short, the hour long episodes didn't work nearly as well as the shorter ones. Of this, most fans and even those who created the shows will agree. Still, there is enough good to outweigh the bad and the set is definitely worth owning. That's my opinion. Apr 27 10 11:47 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Out of the videotaped ones, I kind of like "The Whole Truth". Every time Jack Carson utters a compelled truth, that weird flute music kicks in. Carson is very entertaining to watch.
