I checked through all 20 pages in this folder, honest, and nothing came up...
I was so happy to find the original, hour long with two or three segements (just like Night Gallery) version of this show is available on DVD and for my Netflix viewing!
Volume one arrived today. I have terribly fond memories of this TZ revival. I was in sixth grade, and watched it religiously with my best friend Mark. My friend who always knew exactly what I was talking about in 2nd and 3rd grade when I at rescess the next day would say "Raglin!" or " My name is talking Tina", referencing the TZ rerun on our UHF station the night before... that best friend Mark!
My college age sister Ann was also really impressed by it, and I recall having phone conversations with her after almost every episode.
Even at the tender age of 12 or 13 I sort of realized it was a big step back in quality when the final episodes of the CBS 80's TZ run where broadcast as 30 minute segments, and I later read with a mix of dread and admiration in TZ Magazine about how the show's editors had to re-edit everything into 30 minutes for syndication. And although it had it's high points, maybe the less said about Syndication Canadian made istallments the better.
Rewatching the original cuts of the 80's TZ after all these years hasn't diminished my original impression.... Some of the best, most mind provoking and well done SF ever!
And I mean SF in the sense of those old BEST OF SF volumes. I love the WORD PLAY episode where the ordinary protagonist suddenly finds himself unable to understand a word anyone is saying. There is a very touching moment when his wife comfort and embrace each other worrying over their deathly ill son, even though neither husband or wife (was that Amy Potts?) can speak the same language. The segment ends with the husband in the room on his recovering son using his readers to teach himself this new language. Brilliant!
