Makes you want to weep and vomit at the same time - womit, if you will. If you enjoyed The Concrete Overcoat Affair, by all means check out the "feature" version, The Spy in the Green Hat. Janet Leigh's Miss Diketon is much more overtly perverse in the big screen version.

Jun 23 12 10:32 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Well, I watched "The My Friend the Gorilla Affair." Is it as awful as people say it is? YES! The awfulness just kept coming and coming. It wouldn't let up! I understand it was meant to lampoon Tarzan movies, I suppose, but there's a point where absurd parody ends and idiotic farce begins. Just look at the Austin Powers movies. But Jungle Girl was pretty hot, albeit pretty dumb. And the subsequent "The Jingle Bells Affair" wasn't much better. You know, if you're going to make a Christmas episode, do what the Brits do: put an extra effort into it. The Avengers had a terrific Christmas episode, "Too Many Christmas Trees." That had an eerie, dreamy tone and it was intriguing. "The Jingle Bells Affair" was a sloppy mess involving a visiting bolshie chairman, a bumbling assassination plot, and a criticism of the commercial aspects of Christmas. A little too much content for my tender tummy. Season 3 is giving me the audiovisual equivalent of indigestion. I am looking forward to "The Yo-Ho-Ho and the Bottle of Rum Affair" and "The Pieces of Fate Affair." And I am fairly optimistic about the pleasant surprise episodes like "The Off-Broadway Affair." "The Take Me to Your Leader Affair" wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. I liked seeing Nancy Sintara in those black leather pants. You see, I try to concentrate on the positives. Captain's Log (Supplemental): I watched "The Suburbia Affair" and found it to be another of Season 3's pleasant surprises. I have the feeling it will be the dry run for "The Pieces of Fate Affair", which I'm really looking forward to seeing. Jun 28 12 7:28 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I finally saw "The Pieces of Fate Affair" last night. Is it the episode I was hoping for? YES! What a reward for enduring a mostly mediocre and occasionally lousy season. This episode reminded me why I got into this show. If only more Season 3 was like this.... I also liked "The Yo-Ho-Ho and a Bottle of Rum Affair." Dan O'Herlihy was great as the disgraced, drunken sea captain. I have a feeling that the best of Season 3 is behind me now, but there is another two-parter coming up called "The Five Daughters Affair." It might be good, I hope.

And it struck a special chord with me since I was born and raised in Ohio (I still live there unfortunately). Hearing the name of the town Mainsville, no doubt a play on Painesville, made me giggle a little. And my hometown Akron was mentioned too, such a rare thing on national television. I didn't know Harlan Ellison was from Cleveland prior to seeing this episode. Now I know why the Tasmanian Devil growls... Unfortunately, the following episodes "The Matterhorn Affair" and "The Hot Number Affair" were both painful experiences. I think there's one more dud lined up called "The Apple a Day Affair", co-written by Les Roberts (who has adopted Cleveland as his hometown oddly enough). Maybe that one won't be so bad. My friend occasionally makes these really obscure Ohio jokes. They often involve allusions to conditions of cultural depredation that are familiar to me from my own upbringing in rural Maryland half a century ago. Harlan wrote another UNCLE episode but not being an UNCLE diehard (I just enjoy watching the show occasionally), I can't recall the title. It was something of a rip-off of the Dr. Goldfoot films. Although who knows, maybe Harlan came up with the idea all on his own. The whole "fembot" thing in the Austin Powers films derives from this sort of material, of course. H.

Jul 1 12 11:58 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Maximillian, not surprised you thought I was English--I do have not-so-intermittent bouts of rampant Anglomania. but then I think what's happened to the country in the past couple of decades and the bleakness of the post-Thatcher outlook--hard to know whether to weep or erupt in hysterical laughter. One thing I admire about the Brits is that they seem to do a better job of releasing esoteric television material than is the case in the US. Last year a friend sent me some really weird series--"The Corridor People" (with Elizabeth Shepherd--the series is practically a testament to why we should all be very grateful she wound up NOT playing Emma Peel), "Spyder's Web" with a caustic Anthony Ainley matching wits with a ground-glass voiced Patricia Cutts (the two have a sort of anti-chemistry together--I couldn't stop watching, but I know I'm in a rather rarefied circle there), and something from the early 1970s with Anouska Hempel as a luxuriating astrologer who solves crimes--"Zodiac" might have been the title; there were only 6 episodes. Hell would freeze over before stuff like this was ever released in the US--another reason to be grateful for multi-region playback equipment. cheers, Helrunar

Jul 2 12 7:12 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	My trek through the wild and woolly Season 3 continues. "The When in Roma Affair" was another pleasant surprise. I was wondering whether or not I was going to see Sid Haig pop in this series. And there he was, playing the Muscle (a role he does rather well). There was also a good Main and Secondary Villain (nice little twist with the Secondary Villain). Too bad the following "The Apple a Day Affair" wasn't (shame on you, Les). But I take minor solace that the worst of Season 3 is behind me. There's that final two-parter "The Five Daughters Affair" (Terry-Thomas is in that one, I think) and one called "The Cap and Gown Affair" (let's hope that season finale is better than Season 2's "The Indian Affairs Affair").

Much as I adore Ms Powers, how April Dancer got to be a top agent is a mystery as she is a pretty useless agent. Watching THE CARPATHIAN CAPER AFFAIR - perhaps the worst UNCLE ever. "The Galatea Affair" had Illya working with Mark Slate. That wasn't bad, but I'll keep my distance from the rest. Three more Season 3 episodes to go. Disc 10 came in the mail. I'm goin' in!
