May 13 12 2:30 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Midway through watching s3 - it's actually great fun with the comedy suiting it very well - just found out that Neal Hefti who wrote many of the BATMAN scores wrote several scores for this season of UNCLE which is possibly why so many fans believe this season to be so Bat-Inspired. It certainly has a large dose of comedy in this season so will be interesting to see what s4 holds for me as it is supposedly more like s1+s2.

I don't think it was Neal Hefti, WalesGuy, but it was Nelson Riddle who wrote the BATMAN and some U.N.C.L.E. scores. In fact, Riddle was sacked from the series by an angry Norman Felton because he made his U.N.C.L.E. music sound so much like BATMAN.

May 22 12 9:34 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I know this is turning into a Nelson Riddle thread, but ... I'm watching "The Rogues," from 1965. It seems to have been filmed on many of the same sets as The Man from UNCLE, and Nelson Riddle did the score. And these long sleek black Caddy-esque cars with big fins in the back keep showing up, and I keep expecting the Dynamic Duo to leap into the scene next to David Niven or Gig Young. As mentioned in the Me-TV thread, "The Rogues" really is good stuff for those who enjoy Sixties action/espionage TV with a light touch. Great guest cast. I'm really loving Gladys Cooper's Aunt Meg, too. H.

I recently bought the whole series on boots, but I've put off watching them, entirely for fear that my teenage love for the show is gonna get blown out of the water. But soon, I promise. Any information I have about this season and this show in general comes from this nice (but rather antiquated by current internet standards) fansite: http://www.manfromuncle.org/ It's not as nice as DKS's Avengers fansite, but it's useful. I'm a big fan of the first two seasons (Season 2 especially), so this campy turn may not agree with me. Nowadays I have an aversion to camp. I have difficulty watching Batman because of this, despite its occasional kinkiness, very vivid color palate, and fun Nelson Riddle score. It probably won't be as bad. And who knows? I may enjoy it. Of course, I'd rather watch a bad episode of this show than a good episode of any current TV show.

But there are definitely some highlights; including Harlan Ellison's "The Sort-of-Do-It-Yourself-Dreadful Affair" and "The Pieces of Fate Affair" and the lively two-parter, "The Concrete Overcoat Affair" (reconstituted on the big screen as THE SPY IN THE GREEN HAT). A number of installments are just inoffensively bland - "The Monks of St. Thomas Affair", "The Yo-Ho-Ho and a Bottle of Rum Affair" - but "The Super Colossal Affair", "The My Friend the Gorilla Affair" and the Sonny and Cher stinker, "The Hot Number Affair" are enough to make you drop your head into your hands and weep.

They're not all bad, but none of them I've seen come close to the quality of Seasons 1 or 2. "The Thor Affair" and "The Galatea Affair" were enjoyable, thanks to some good guest-stars (Bernard Fox and Joan Collins, respectively). Some are dull but not horrible like "The Monks of St. Thomas Affair" or "The Candidate's Wife Affair." I still don't know what to make of "The Sort-of-Do-It-Yourself Dreadful Affair." I like the ideas, but not the execution in that one. Take the camp out of it and you could've had yourself a pretty good episode. The same goes for "The Her Master's Voice Affair," good ideas coupled with poor execution. "The Super-Colossial Affair" and "The Pop Art Affair" were awful beyond measure. I'm not yet half-way through, but I'm getting a little weary of this season. No wonder the ratings dropped. Still, there are some good times ahead. "The Concrete Overcoat Affair" is coming up, I've read those are good (it's a two-parter).

Jun 20 12 8:15 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Season 3 continues for me. "The Off-Broadway Affair" with Shari Lewis (sans Lamb Chop) was better than I thought it would be. But then I had low expectations, so go figure. I did see "The Concrete Affair" and I have to say it was a great two-parter. It had a lot going on with some great guest stars (Jack Palance, Janet Leigh, and Leiticia Roman). It was a little over-the-top, but that is to be expected with a show like this produced in a time like the mid '60s. I'm sticking with it folks, but I am missing the good old days of the first two seasons.

Jun 20 12 1:21 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	the off-broadway affair is one of my favorite season 3 episodes.it has a good balance to it.shari lewis shows she did not need puppets to banter with to be talented. the shows like the man from u.n.c.l.e. are products of their time .remembering that and viewing them comparing them with other shows from the same time and how it fit in the time it was made is the only fair way to judge them. the only episode on season 3 i can remember really disliking was the one with the jungle girl and the gorrilla.i am talking about having seen the whole run in the last few years.not memory from decades ago. one out of a whole season is not bad.
