Many of you were here at the beginning, all those years ago, but it was around New Years in 1995 when we fired up our new Apple Performa computer, browsed through AOL's message boards and found an area called Realms of ... something. Wow, I've forgotten.
But whatever it was called, we created a folder called UNIVERSAL HORRORS, and posted about the fact that OLD DARK HOUSE was not available in an official video. We wondered if anyone was watching -- or reading.

The first person to reply was someone called BixB (Joe Busam), and soon after a rush of postings began. Back then folders had a limit on the number of posts (400?), so soon new folders called SON OF UNIVERSAL HORRORS, GHOST and HOUSE followed.
Then it exploded into dozens of folders, along with fun, flame wars, several live interviews with FJA (or someone like him. Heh.), and much more, including the coining of the term "Monster Kid,'' Gary Prange's creation of the Old Dark Clubhouse at Monster Bash, and, of course, the Rondos in 2002 (186 people voted that first year!). Most importantly, the horror community, including classic magazine editors, writers, artists, historians, embraced the CHFB. One of us, indeed.
It became one of AOL's most popular message areas.

But in the mid 2000s (2005?), we made the big move. Kerry Gammill had created a separate "Monster Kid'' site on the EZBoards, full of all his wonderful artwork and smartly partitioned into areas still in use today.
It was rechristened the Classic Horror Film Board (CHFB for short), and it's been a monstrous blast ever since.
There was a crash on the EZ Boards that destroyed a few years of posts, but since 2007 -- if you look way down at the bottom -- we've had 123 million (!!!), clicks at the Good 'Ol CHFB.
We've had our (mostly) ups and a few downs, but this is still THE place to discuss the classic films that got us all here in the first place.

If you want gore, decapitations, splatter, this won't be the place for you. But if Bela's voice still brings a chill and a grimace, if Karloff's monster brings a shudder and a smile, and if King Kong is still The Eighth Wonder of the World, then this is most definitely the place for you. And for all of us.
Thanks to everyone who helped make the CHFB a part of horror's firmament. And as we spruce up the place (some new artwork courtesy of Jerod26 is popping up; maybe a new forum or two), we hope to make our 20th year our best yet. And Rondo XII soon, too.
Let us know what CHFB means to you; how CHFB has affected your enthusiasm for the hobby; and how we can make it better.
