Robert_Laughlin: I am so sleepy that if Pete proposes (as always) to start with a cartoon, I will cuss him out.
Burma Shave: Let's , uh , get to the movie before Rob starts swearing
Robert_Laughlin: I will wait patiently for the countdown until one second after 11 Eastern.
sillyhuron: This movie was on all the time when I was a kid. A fave
How many of you have fallen asleep while watching a movie? (For some
reason, I am one of those people who can't sleep in a sitting position,
so it's never happened to me.)
kcor: how many? more than 1000 times
sillyhuron: I once fell asleep watching a murder mystery & still figured out who the killer was when I woke up
Robert_Laughlin: Going for a cuppa, a *big* cuppa. Be back by 11.
I remember hearing about the story synopsis and thinking it was a
fascinating idea but I'm not sure if it was because I'd imagined there
should be a movie about that beforehand
kcor: i would agree with burma to start now but robert said back by 11
Cucamongadan: maybe he'll get such a big cuppa he'll fall asleep drinking it but wake up ready for a marathon in about 4.5 hours
Number13: I like this movie
sillyhuron: I can tell you've been there Dan
Cucamongadan: that's my usual after-dinner routine
sillyhuron: Ian and Sylvia Anderson right? The UFO/Thundernirds people?
kcor: i have come to like marooned
Cucamongadan: Journey to Mirroland!
Number13: I like this movie's style
Cucamongadan: Gerry Anderson and the Pacemakers
kcor: it's confusing when universal makes a spacetravel movie
kcor: future helmets
Cucamongadan: it is, you think it's a cold open
Burma Shave: eyeball
Cucamongadan: you could package a special edition 4 tape set of 8-tracks in such a box
PeteFitzgerald: He's really a giant supermarionation [tm] puppet! 😲
Number13: it's good to wash your eyes once a week
Burma Shave: microfiche eyeball?
kcor: --just in case people forgot how to process film
Number13: this is where peter falk gets his eyes from
PeteFitzgerald: I wonder if Lom's in cahoots with Ben Stein?
Cucamongadan: is this like a darkroom or they just like orange mood lighting?
PeteFitzgerald: THE VISINE MEMORANDUM
KingPhilipe: the ship reminds me of a very early computer game i played
Monsterpal: Hi Dan, Kcor, Pete, FCF (are you really 4C?), King, Robert, gninru, Burma, and Silly.
Robert_Laughlin: Better late than never, MP.
FCF: I'm really 4C, MP.
FCF: Is King new? Nice to meet you King, if you are.
Number13: hi monster!
Monsterpal: Indeed. This movie was cool the first time I saw it, but it seemed sillier with each repeat viewing.
KingPhilipe: ah yes hello
Monsterpal: Hi, 13! How are you, sweetie?
Number13: good, how are you?
FCF: Its my first time seeeing it, but I missed the first 20 mins or so
gninruBiS: the pic's from revenge of the pink panther
Number13: it's a good one
Monsterpal: I don't think we've ever had royalty in here before, King. Bienvenue!
FCF: It has a pleasant calming effect compared to louder movies
kcor: being weightless slowed up their muscles
KingPhilipe: ahah thank you
Monsterpal: The space scenes are well staged.
Monsterpal: Yes, Mona would have been a welcome cast member.
One problem is they have nothing with as much suspense and intrigue as
the bit at the start with Herbert Lom taking the photos of the secret
plans with his eye-camera.
FCF: Ground control to Major Tom!
Cucamongadan: good point Si
FCF: see ya, kcor!
Number13: bye kcor!
SkipStephensonsBurger: bye kcor
Monsterpal: How long until the medicine chest scene?
FCF: they said Doppelganger, which is the alternate title
Cucamongadan: can they just take a tip from the King Dinosaur astronauts and set off an a-bomb?
Monsterpal: A few dinosaurs would have livened things up, even if they were just lizards.
Cucamongadan: and there'sa TZ about a doppelganger, another parallel
FCF: there ya go, Dan😎
gninruBiS: Uh oh! He's gonna hit the gas instead of the brakes!
FCF: Mirror Image?
Monsterpal: Me, Myself, and the Andersons.
Number13: yes 4
FCF: great ep

FCF: Santa is gonna miss that chimney
Number13: "Marie, Fred's playing on the roof again."
FCF: haha, shin kick by Robin
CucamongaDan: I'm sorry, David Hedison won't get off the line
FCF: ledge hanger!
FCF: down he goes!
Number13: jap? 🤔
FCF: Will Batman hit pavement? Will Linda be rescued?
CucamongaDan: Jap 5!
FCF: They would have to cut that on TV today
CucamongaDan: well, that was interesting
CucamongaDan: ready to start Dracula or anyone need a quick break first?
FCF: It was. They weren't good at duplicating the comic book look
CucamongaDan: I like it better when its not all comic bookish looking
FCF: paused on what looks like the English titles
CucamongaDan: queuing . . .
gninruBiS: Wow! Only 4 people for a Universal!?!
Number13: linky again?
Number13: got it
FCF: where is Rob, he is big booster of this one
FCF: and Pete is off tonight too
and then continued with the scheduled feature, while Pete And Rob slept.
gninruBiS: That's what parents call their little tyrant tykes
FCF: Swan Lake, the old standby music
Number13: nice music
CucamongaDan: clean sounding recording
FCF: Reparto, that means cast?
FCF: or players, maybe
gninruBiS: The heirs of Pyotr Ilyich couldn't sue all the way from the soviet onoin
CucamongaDan: like the word repertory
FCF: Conde Dracula😎
CucamongaDan: giddy up horse
FCF: There is the coach, but no Dwight Frye
gninruBiS: Conde Dracula? Makes me reimagine what Conde Nasty means,
CucamongaDan: tonight is walpurgisnacht
gninruBiS: Walpurgis Nacht. The night of the walrus purges.
FCF: the gal is dressed just like the gal in the US version
CucamongaDan: when the walrus purges take cover
CucamongaDan: cool- I guess the costumes were available asw well a the sets
FCF: It's cool to see the same sets, filmed at night during the same time? if that story is true
CucamongaDan: castillo de dracula
CucamongaDan: yeah- they hadn't considered just dubbing it
FCF: the set that never slept
CucamongaDan: there's a bunch of Laurel & hardys they did in Spanish and German or French too I think
Number13: yeah its interesting
gninruBiS: what's with the fire?
Number13: nice mood
gninruBiS: ... err... I mean Renfeld. Drc's wearing a square ring.
gninruBiS: Ava's got a sprig
Number13: fake plant alert
gninruBiS: Moe that sprig, baby
gninruBiS: He ruled nations, sucked the life blood of millions, but the one simple thing he can't do.... Missing a green thumb.

CucamongaDan: oops, back

SkipStephensonsBurger joined the chat 4 days ago

gninruBiS: It's a little late to ketchup
SkipStephensonsBurger: Announce me

gninruBiS: New movies, or dvd/bd releases?
SkipStephensonsBurger: yes gnin
gninruBiS: I've been a bad boy and not paying much attention to th new hammer films
gninruBiS: I really liked The Woman in Black
gninruBiS: ... pretty good for a remake

and made a cameo in it
SkipStephensonsBurger: 50's to the 70's is real hammer 👍
gninruBiS: If I had a Hamer, I'd Hammer in the morning. I'd Hammer in the evening all over tv-land.
SkipStephensonsBurger: surprised not many people saw it or part 2
CucamongaDan: reading on Wikipedia- I had no idea Hammer still existed
gninruBiS: Not really still. More like again.
SkipStephensonsBurger: Cool the Love Kills video from Nightmare on Elm Street 4 on Mtv Classic
CucamongaDan: yeah they list 4 new films

CucamongaDan: yeah it said "including" them
CucamongaDan: almost as abrupt an ending as the American version
gninruBiS: Wow! Their website only lists 6.
SkipStephensonsBurger: i think Lee was in one of the newer hammer films

The last link contains the transcript of the intro to the Frank Zappa song that mentions IT CONQUERED THE WORLD. I have yet to see the claim about the visible two-by-four as the monster is emerging from the cave verified. Certainly an issue deserving further investigation and discussion.

Number13: Van Helsing
CucamongaDan: I like that part when everything stops
Monsterpal: Yeah, I wonder where they got that idea?
gninruBiS: E M Pulse?
Number13: I like any production that has things stop all over 😎
kcor: it's quiet up here in the mountains
EdWainwright: no more electricity? Beulah's doing her Klaatu impression
kcor: buick 6?
Monsterpal: In his rip-off of INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, Roger tosses in a bit of THE DAY.
Number13: "Damn this maple street."
PeteFitzgerald: Graves: "Huh... Agar/Gor is at it again..."
CucamongaDan: don't worry dear, It's John Agar making Brain From Planet Arous over the next rridge
kcor: mike looks like a fork with some meatloaf on it
CucamongaDan: Beulah giving birth to bat things
Robert_Laughlin: The beasties from *The Undead* are back on the screen.
Number13: this movie is pre-maple street 🙂
Monsterpal: They used those in The Undead, too.
kcor: i think i'm 30 secs behind
PeteFitzgerald: "All kinds of critters form Mama Beulah's fritters!"
Monsterpal: Pete, har!

EdWainwright: don't throw that prop away, officer. someday it'll bring big bucks on eBay
Robert_Laughlin: "Stop, don't throw away that dead cat!"
PeteFitzgerald: And now, it's Miller time....
Number13: go fly a kite
Robert_Laughlin: Copies of THAT book bring big bucks on eBay now.
kcor: he's using the wrong end of pistol
CucamongaDan: in Zontar it makes a cooler noise when bat thing stings one's neck
FCF: "this superior itelligence is a personal friend of mine"
kcor: ilya kurakin read a copy of 'captain marvel and his space horse' in man from uncle
Robert_Laughlin: Dr. Anderson, useful idiot.
PeteFitzgerald: That was den, this is now.
CucamongaDan: mankind will never make this world a proper charnel house! By the way, what's a charnel house?
EdWainwright: that 'personal friend' line is one of the dumbest in sf films
kcor: both inoperative and useless, mr debbie downer?
kcor: change the charnel
PeteFitzgerald: Graves to Van Cleef: "I'm going to look into your BIOGRAPHY... and I think I'll DISCOVER: THE WORLD OF SCIENCE!"

I should also note that though we had watched chapter 1 of the 1943 Batman serial on July 14, we forgot to watch chapter 2 last Friday. Hopefully we will get back on track withit this Friday. Batman and RObin were falling from a tall building when last seen iirc.
