Okay, I've looked, searched, but I don't see "Devil Bat" in Golden Age Horror. Maybe it's somewhere else. I can't believe the CHFB has been around for 50 years
, & not one reference to this golden oldie. I wanted to post the following on the thread, but.... On Jan. 22, 1941, Variety ran this review, one of its shortest, & most negative:
"This is pretty terrible." Then, one long sentence re the plot. Then, "'The Devil Bat' hardly can pass muster on even the most lowly dual situations. Acting, directing, photography--all poor" (Naka).
Actually, this may all be true. What they forgot (or Naka forgot) was uh Entertaining! Wasn't there Camp back in '41? Lugosi's acting poor? Maybe, maybe not, but that's kinda beside the point. Wonder what general audiences thought back then. Or more specific monster-loving audiences....
