While a number of the people commenting certainly think theyare doing it for the most noble of reasons, to someone on the outside, they tend to come off as "holier than thou",looking for more blood, and wanting to dance on a few graves. As I read it, initially Lucas didn't jump on thebandwagon about the plagiarism. When presented with the facts he issued an apology and will no longer use her work. But a number offolks want the apology worded the they way THEY want the apology worded, and won't take anything but.....I don't read it as shooting the messenger. Actually I feel sorry for somone like the spiderwoman, or whatever, to be so incrediblystupid and selfish and really create their own mess. We screw up big time sometimes...and she did it in the digital age whereyou ARE going to be found out. I'm cursed with feeling empathy for people who probably don't deserve any - comes from beinga goof up myself on occasions.

Then in the next issue of Video Watchdog he also publicly denounced her work. So the problem here seems to be a matter of degree. Unlike some posters concerning other fandom miscreants, after all the facts were in he did not continue to make excuses for her bad behavior or blame others for her crime.I am interested if anyone can point to one post making a defense of Spidermonkey (or any other plagiarist) **after** they had been proven guilty in the court of public opinion. This argument has been maneuvered in such a way that if you don't agree with the degree of condemnation, you are condoning the crime. Which is B.S. and all too common in this day and age.I am curious, what exactly could Tim do to make these folks happy?

2. Explain why he did not investigate the evidence of plagiarism he received before the story broke to either confirm or deny this serious allegation
3. Detail what specific adjustments he will be making to VW's editorial processes to ensure that this doesn't happen again.
Contrast Tim's statements with those of WhatCulture, a site that recently discovered two of its writers plagiarized material:http://whatculture.com/site-updates/whatculture-statement-on-plagiarism.php
Journalism is journalism, doesn't matter if it's monster "fandumb" or a blog like Whatculture or the New York Times. There are standards to follow.

What's with the ugly dogpile on the guy? Going strictly off his written words, Tim seems a straight shooter who says what he believes and who can fault that? I say kudos. Save the ire, weigh up the balance of the published responses, if they ever materialize, and get the target's range before pulling the trigger.
