Indeed. My newspaper career started in '81 &, after an interruption for grad school, really began in earnest in '85, & looking back ... Nah. I don't really want to think about it. I never knowingly encountered a case of plagiarism myself during my reporting or editing days, but a few years ago my former newspaper here had to let a reporter go for inventing sources out of whole cloth, which is just as bad ... though at least other people's work wasn't being lifted, I suppose.
Anyway, yes -- sad. I knew her byline (memorable only for its fakeness, of course; perhaps that should've been a sign*) from Fangoria, to which I've been subbing for several years now. Wasn't aware till now of the Tarantino connection, though of course in my jaundiced eyes that wouldn't have constituted any sort of endorsement anyway.
*No, dammit, I did not appear in my old newspapers as "gef the talking mongoose"!

And ... ugh. Having read Mirek's Latarnia Forums link, I can only advise others not to do so if they want to preserve their high opinions of a certain veteran editor & author in the field. (Apparently, the plagiarism accusations arose, you see, out of bitterness over the fact that she's "young, beautiful, affluent, educated, athletic and seems to be living a charmed and golden, bicoastal life, now with one of our leading writer/directors on her arm.")
*sigh*

boils down to a stupid mistake, repeated out of simple convenience until it caught up with her, and made in the first place because she's still young and fairly new to the rigors of professional writing.
