SMILEY (2012) is the subject of some very negative reviews on the IMDb, seemingly from people who expected the film to be something it definitely is not. I liked it a lot, however! It is the somewhat clever story of a "viral serial killer" who appears in web chats and a girl with a history of psychiatric problems who is not sure she is not imagining the whole thing. Well directed by a 25-year-old and well acted by a cast of mostly people I cannot recall having seen before. With a twist ending that some will see coming pretty much immediately, but which nevertheless satisfies. And with some further last-minute twists that undermine the first one for no good reason other than that it has become the convention. And I think the film thinks it has a "message." Still, recommended!
