Mar 2 13 4:55 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I recently rewatched THREE WORLDS OF GULLIVER for the first time in years, and was surprised it had an "all a dream" ending. However, I didn't think the filmmakers set up the possibility of its being a dream, as did the 1940 WIZARD OF OZ. When you first saw the film, did you buy the "only a dream" ending as valid, or did you wonder at it? NATURALISTIC! UNCANNY! MARVELOUS!

Mar 11 13 9:34 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I got the sense that it wasn't a dream. It makes more sense if it wasn't.Gulliver said that off the top of his head. If it was intended as a dream(even ambigiously),then it raises a whole of questions that add a lot of holes in the movie. Even so,without the dream,it still doesn't explain how Gulliver's fiance came to be in the land of the giants. The biggest reason I question the dream ending is that they end up washed ashore on a beach in England,and the basket that brought them there is seen behind them. A rare case (to me)where a dream doesn't explain everything,just muddies it up.

The basket appears to be normal size which means it could have come from the sunken ship or just from anywhere. Not only that, but the end of the film hints that their first child will be Glumdalclitch and that they were given a supernatural or divine vision into the future about what their daughter will be like. The kid's gonna have a rough time in school with that name, though. I always had the impression that somehow they were re-united on the water, both clinging to some sort of floating object and were semi-conscious/unconscious for the time they were adrift and somehow shared whatever it it is they went through.

Mar 11 13 2:58 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Well,I've only seen this movie twice all the way through. I saw bits and pieces when I was younger. I bought it about a year ago to complete my Ray harryhausen collection.,which I watched right after,and the 2nd time a couple of days ago. I was really in the mood I suppose to watch Ray's effects and didn't notice some of the things you pointed out Full Port,so my bad. Your last explanation makes more sense to me,although I would think that the ship would of had to sink not too far from England,which was not my impression when I watched the movie. Although I liked Ray's work on this,I gotta admit it probably is the worst of his movies,to me. Creatures are few on this and it seemed more geared to children,which come to think of it,seems to fit with your second statement,in a vaguely strange way. I may reaching there. Sometimes I do and get carried away. I think I'll take another look at that ending.
