Greetings,
I am curious to know more about the relationship between Universal and Jack Broder's Realart.
When watching the trailers from Universal's 1940's Mummy series, I noticed that at least one of those previews ended with "A Realart Re-Release."
It seems like the Realart re-releases appeared after Universal-International's incorporation, but only a few years after the programs' initial releases.
Did Realart cater to a new audience?
Were returned Second World War veterans attracted to films released in their absence?
Were neighborhood theaters venues for the re-releases, or had local picture houses originally run the titles in first release?
I am trying to establish the niche to which Realart's re-releases stuck.
For instance, I cannot imagine the a film like The Mummy's Curse had much recycled value only a few years following its initial release.
Maybe colleges and youth organizations rented these titles.
Of course, we fans would have turned out for a re-release, and maybe our younger brothers and sisters would want to see the pictures we loved for themselves.
Please advise!
With advance appreciation,
Andy in Vancouver.
