As I have in my possession a 35 MM print of HOD, I would say IMHO, that the BFI's restoration of DRACULA is very close..at least it leans towards the "blue and darker" side of the color spectrum. One of the complaints when comparing this to Lugosi's version was that HOD lacked atmosphere, and the Warner DVD helped to support that opinion. With the BFI version we have Harker entering a "dark" hall with more overall shadows throughout the film. My only hope now is whoever is mastering gets the right saturation and luminence..the BFI trailer seems to look a little "dry" to me. I love the attention this film gets..it was and remains a game changer in cinema fantastique. It has its faults (IMHOto much border guard and mortuary comedy..the hotel assistant was enough) but it has so much going for it that for me it will always be my favorite film.. There aren't many films that still have a profound effect on me 50 years later!!!
