The purchase was compared to Disney's purchase of Pixar and Marvel and the studio has already announced that they are putting a new Star Wars movie into production for release in 2015. And if they produce a new Star Wars can Indiana Jones be far behind?

I read that Kathleen Kennedy will stay involved, and the announcment of Sat Wars Seven for 2015 makes me think that they have been planning this for a long time. Will Mark Hammil return? Will it just be new things in that universe? Is George Lucas getting out of film altogether, even Indiana Jones, or is Indy 5 the only thing he has an interest in? Also - is Lucasfilm hurting for cash and that is why they are doing it? Or with all their billions, can they just not compete with bigger companies? My God, what's Bond doing?... Oct 30 12 3:53 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Funny, I was watching Episode 2 last night on SPIKE - just the end of it and I was thinking now how much I deplore Episodes 1 thru 3. This one with all the clones etc. looked nearly 100% CG in most shots with actors standing in front of blue/green screens. I don't think there was ONE practical effect anywhere in the last 8 minutes of this movie. I thought, well, next, they'll just CG in the actors if they do another one. Then today I hear about Episode 7. I'm not getting a good feeling about this at all. "Ruin the Star Wars legacy you have." "I saw what I saw when I saw it!"

And considering the perpetual licensing of the Star Wars characters I think Disney got a bit of a deal. Sounds silly to say that 4 billion dollars is a deal, but you can still walk into any store in the free world and see Star Wars items on the shelves. I think at age 68 it could be possible that George Lucas has decided to cash out and spend the rest of his life enjoying his success. Decades ago after the first three films were completed he said that he needed to take a break because his life had been completely dominated by Star Wars and had mused at the time what the franchise would be worth if he were to just sell it outright. And if he did get the itch to make another movie he'll certainly won't have any problem getting it done. This is a great lesson for all artists. Win, lose or draw, always protect and maintain control over your intellectual property.

And I don't look forward to a non-Lucas SW film, no matter how the Eps 1-3 turned out (not as bad as people make them out to be, imo). The first two (and yes, of course I mean STAR WARS and THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK) were excellent. As for the rest.....RETURN OF THE JEDI was OK, bit strange and full of bits and pieces, and then the prequels. I can't say enough bad about them. They are the absolute worst in filmmaking. There is not one scene IN ALL THREE FILMS that was not shot on a greenscreen. Since they were shot that way, and half the characters are CGI, there's nothing for the actors to interact with. So, basically, the entire 6-hour film cycle is a bunch of actors talking to brick walls. Lucas might have done slightly better (SLIGHTLY) if he'd just animated the whole damn thing and just used voice actors. The plots still wouldn't make sense, and they'd still contradict themselves and the original films every five minutes, but at least there would have been a hope for the acting. I have absolutely no faith in this at all. Though I think it will be better now that the Grand Moron...sorry, I mean George Lucas...won't be involved, I still have no confidence. Hopefully they'll be able to get a competent writer - like they didn't with the prequels - and a competent director - like they didn't with the prequels - and turn out something watchable - like they didn't with the prequels. Not to mention how much I hate Disney (more than I hate almost anything). I hope it turns out OK, but I have serious doubts. Disney's already proved how well they can make sci-fi action films (read: not well at all) with JOHN CARTER.

Oct 30 12 7:53 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Maybe it's the difference between what's on the screen and what's in my head that lessens the enjoyment for me. I had the same problem with the LORD OF THE RINGS films too. They're OK, but the images just don't match up with what I imagine the scenes to be, and I guess I like what's in my head better. Total opposite with the HARRY POTTER films tho - the images there match up almost perfectly and the differences don't bug me so much. Dunno why. The bottom line is I was disappointed with JOHN CARTER. Maybe I was a little harsh tho. Revised comment: it was fairly well-made, but I didn't really enjoy it.

But...it feels odd to say this...the franchise is probably better off in the hands of anyone other than the man who created it. George Lucas has lost his way in so many...err...ways. And, once upon a time, I would have said that Harrison Ford wouldn't get within 10 parsecs of another STAR WARS, but his career isn't exactly booming, and I imagine he'd jump at a shot at a geriatric Han Solo. I'm going to remain hopeful. I'm sure there are lots of STAR WARS fans in Hollywood. If Disney can just find one or two who are also talented...well, maybe something good can come of this. I'm just gonna sit quietly and hope for the best. Why not? Doesn't cost me anything. The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously. Hubert H. Humphrey

After the huge backlash against the last three films,the STAR WARS franchise could do worse than to be in the hands of the people who gave us THE AVENGERS,a film that gave me much more of a blast of pure epic fun in the cinema than anything Lucas had had his name on since the early 80's.
