Oct 9 12 11:52 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have read some where that the sets from various Universal Horrors (FRANKENSTEIN and DRACULA) were used for this film and also Jack Pierce was responsible for make up. However I can't seem to i.d. any of the sets. Any help? Maybe a set leftover from Dracula?

I doubt that the Halperin's had a lot of money for their Art Director, so I'm guessing that everything in WHITE ZOMBIE was a standing set at either Universal or RKO. Most of the shot above is a glass painting. Although I believe something from Castle Dracula made it into this set (maybe the windows). The exterior balcony that Madge Bellamy stands on is a left-over from THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME. The stairway from which Brandon Hurst is thrown does turn up in FRANKENSTEIN, albeit redesigned. Yes, Jack P. Pierce did the makeup.
