Aug 29 10 7:28 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	An interesting mystery: As part of the current (an excellent) Shout DVD release, there are some outtakes from Humanoids of the Deep included, some with sound and some without. Almost all of it seems to be short scenarios that could have been dropped into the film to add to the nudity and violence totals. These are almost like little movies in an of themselves, and only one really doesn't work (the fisher who gets dragged Jaws-style through the surf). The first scenario has a blond girl who goes skinny dipping and then gets a dose of humanoid. I thought the actress looked familiar, and now I wonder... was it Rainbeaux Smith??? Does anybody else agree, or think it's another identifiable actress?

Mar 4 11 8:13 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	On my top 5 list of favorite monster movies of all time. I don't care what anybody says. It's not even a guilty pleasure. I'm proud of liking it. People who compare it to cinematic flatulence like Horror of Party Beach are sad. Atmospheric, misty locations at Buckhorn Cove, Mendocino, Music by James Horner, a team of expert, famous makeup artists, beautiful women, outrageousness, eroticism, gore. I could rhapsodize at length. The foetid, worthless remake with Emma Sams is not even worth mentioning. She's put in the nest not nude, not even wearing a nice bathing suit, lbut in some kind of pink golf shirt. No eye for iconic imagery there. It isn't that I like rape, but one of my favorite themes is "mutant rampage". It's why I love Island of Lost Souls and The Kindred (1987) Also the "anything goes, anything can happen" feeling is a thing of the past now. I went to see it because I thought it was the best sounding title I'd ever heard in my life. I was not disappointed for a second from beginning to end. A rare experience. "Monster" is by contrast the worst title I've ever heard of. One person said "Finally you see the monsters actually doing what is only implied they would like to do in the poster art." Mar 4 11 10:55 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have an awesome Mexican 3 sheet I got for next to nothing off of ebay in its infancy. The only problem is the cost of custom framing it would be completely irresponsible. Nothing worse than spending $10 on an old poster and finding you need a $100+ frame to hold the thing.

I was repairing my poster this week because there were many push pin holes in each corner, and the corners were falling apart. Shame on me! A Mexican 3 sheet sounds wonderful.

The first time I saw it was at an all night sci-fi/horror film festival at the Orson Welles theater in Boston around 1980. The place was filled with howling young college students. I guess that included me. The place was just rocking. The magic that this film worked on it's audience was incredible. Every time I hear about Humanoids I just remember that night and smile.

I've known Mexican posters to be different in a fun way. If I recall correctly,it's two different variations of the Japanese style artwork (Humanoid attacking a bikini girl) bookending a middle section that is all reproductions of the Humanoids Mexican lobby card set. Its a thing of trashy beauty but so damn big that framing it would probably cost as much as what Rob Bottin spent on fabricating a Humanoid suit.

Also the opening few notes (rearranged) from the 1977 Island of Doctor Moreau, and John Williams music from Jaws- The happy fishing boat music for The Orca, and the attack on Matt Hooper's shark cage. Steal from the best. I'm a Jerry Goldsmith fan, and I think mainly the "echoing thuds" effect from Alien was used. I still own a pristine copy of the Humanoids soundtrack album on vinyl. It was effective, and unusually classy for a low budget exploitation film - with all those other composers in there with a team effort. LOL!
