For PBS's Mystery, Edward Gorey's art was famously used by animator
Derek Lamb to create the memorable opening animation. Even if I didn't
watch the episodes, I would watch the Vincent Price intros. However, I
also remember there were short cartoons that I recognized as being in
the same animation style as the title sequence (i.e. based on the
character designs of Edward Gorey), but I can't find very much
information at all. PBS produced an anniversary book about Mystery some
years ago, and if I recall correctly, they indicated that the little
animated shorts were called "Fantoids", but other than that it offered
no information about how many there were or what the titles/plots were.
The only one that I can currently remember was based on a downbeat "Little Matchgirl" kind of story, done in Gorey's typical art style, about the neglected waif who suffers and dies and nobody cares. That is the only plot I can recall right now, but I know there was more than one of them.
Does anybody else remember these, and/or know more information about them?
