Jul 19 12 1:02 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Saw this at midnight last night in Melbourne, will keep my initial thoughts here short and spoiler free. First 40 mins moves rather slow with a lot of back-story and exposition (after a truly spectacular opening 5 minutes). Bale's voice isn't as gruff as usual, Bane was kinda fun but it felt like every time he promised to do something really nasty the film suddenly pulls back to preserve that all-important PG rating. A real shame as I thought it took away from its potential impact. Also, Bane's voice is incredibly different to what it was when the prologue screened before Mission: Impossible, depsite what Nolan said about not tinkering with it after some audiences complained. Personally, I liked his voice better as it was originally, it sounded more menacing. Anne Hathaway was surprisingly good - better just as Selina Kyle than CW (though she is never called that). A bit of a grifter and femme fatale. The outfit does nothing for me though, at least not in a Julie Newmar/Michelle Pfieffer way (but then again, it's not down there with that Halle Berry atrocity either). Early Oscar 'buzz' about it is a little far-fetched I think....apart from the usual techincal aspects. It is good to see a 'This motion picture was shot on film' in the credits, and nice not to have to suffer all the usual 3D moments (all too obvious even when watched 'flat'). It's uniformally well acted (though Modine was annoying) without having a genuine stand-out performance. The film look gorgeous of course and Wally should find himself with another Oscar nomination, as Hans Zimmer may with his score (sombre and rosuing, though a little too bombastic at times). I'm planning to write a longer review after I see the film again on the weekend, because it usually takes me at least a couple of viewings to really decide on a Nolan film (I hated Inception after first viewing but love it now). All told, upon first viewing I thought TDKR was a very good film with some fantastic moments that wraps up the trilogy rather well, though the ending and it's plot 'twists' were hardly surprising (at least to me). http://john-harrison.blogspot.com SIN STREET SLEAZE (My Blog) Last Edited By: thegraveyardtramp Jul 19 12 1:05 AM. Jul 19 12 10:34 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Sorry if I'm veering away from the movie for a moment, but I just read this article at Entertainment Weekly's website on how Rotten Tomatoes had to suspend their user comments on reviews because some individuals were using profane language about critics comments in regards to TDKR and even making threats against their lives. I find this both sad and disturbing for obvious reasons. I may not agree with most critics, but they are just giving their opinions, take it or leave it. It also paints, I believe, a negative view of all fans everywhere. I could go on and on about how some people today use the anonymity of the internet to let their inhibitions go and post whatever vitriolic and obsenity laced thoughts that happen to seize their"minds" at the moment, but I think I have made my point. I don't envy anyone who is a chief administrator or moderator of a genre related website such as our beloved CHFB but I certainly appreciate their efforts on our behalf. Then the floodgates opened with openly hostile replies that went way past what is acceptable on their site. Insults, death threats, violently explict things he could do sexually, etc. All because one reviewer dared to to dislike a film that these trolls haven't seen yet! Amazingly stupid!

I find that sort of fan mentality pathetic and if anything,i've always been harder on the films/ film makers i like,holding them to a higher standard. Blindly defending a film you haven't even seen amazes me. I know that "maladjusted fan" thread got bottled up for the time being,but this sort of thing is a direct offshoot of that. People need to go outside more.

For one price you get to see Christopher Nolan's complete Dark Knight trilogy, with each audience member receiving a poster (in addition to enjoying the 8 hour 45 minute butt-numbing Bat-action experience). $25 for normal viewing, $40 for IMAX. The show starts at 6 PM, old chum!

Jul 19 12 10:31 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	As someone who loved the way Bane sounded in the prologue when it played before Mission: Impossible, I gotta say I was really jarred when I heard it for the first time in the finished film. In the original prologue it may have been a bit down in the mix but it sounded more menacing and real. When I first heard it in the finished film I genuinely thought, for a split second, that some comedian had gotten hold of the print and overdubbed Bane's voice, making it sound like Sean Connery sending up Darth Vader. It sounds more like a voice-over narration rather than being a part of what is happening onscreen - but once I got used to it I quite enjoyed the accent/modulation. TDKR has a lot in common with Batman Returns - both feature Catwoman, both are set during a snowy winter, both have Bruce and Selina dancing at a masquerade party and - just like BR, TDKR is bound to divide fans, many will love it but I imagine just as many will hate it. One victim was a young lady who had just survived the shooting in the Toronto mall a few weeks earlier. I don't understand.

I am amazed that the shooter's mom reportedly has already confirmed that the police "got the right person." That leads me to believe she could believe her son could do such an act. As a parent, I will would be the last person confirming such a thing, as I would probably hold out hope until the very last second that there is no way my kid could do such a thing.
