"All About Eve" is the greatest b!tch-fest I've witnessed thus far. "Lord I love Spring! The birds, the fair weather, the new flowers. It doesn't get any better than this. HOLY CRAP! what's THAT?!?"

Jul 16 12 1:54 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I heard Ms. Holm before I saw her, because I inherited my parent's Box Set of the original cast of OKLAHOMA, from 1943. Ms. Holm was a hilarious Ado Annie. I also enjoyed her as Liz Imbrie in HIGH SOCIETY. Of course, "EVE" was the pinnacle for all concerned. I'm going to enjoy it tonight. "E" Your Signature ... "....I do hope he won't upset Henry..."

Fan worship, fame by association, money... maybe some kinda shared interest. Woman or man, a gold-digger marriage takes two, the parasite and the willing host who's either too naive, ego-driven, or just plain lonely to much care what the other person's motivation is. It's their life, their relation to their children and their money they put up for grabs, not ours.

She has moments of confusion, fatigue that's due to a very slowly growing form of Leukemia (which her doctor keeps from her), and she can't control her bladder or bowels terribly well. Her peers are dead, and though she still can slowly have conversation, she's just pretty-much at the end of line, and by her own admission, ready to go. Unfortunately, her heart does not agree. Not all 95-year-olds are the same, some are more vital, but many are far worse off. If that's what 95 is all about, I have no desire to see it. There's a difference between longevity and health, the former is a curse without a reasonable amount of the latter.

There is a publicity still which makes her look like a sfumatoed woman of the High Renaissance. Despite the stylized clothing of the 50s (and of a fairy tale, in the case of Cinderella) and the stylized make-up, she came through as a living breathing woman with real features and real hair. Like, in a completely different physical type, Paulette Goddard. Timeless.

The 95-year-old of which I spoke was moved from a two-bedroom "independent living" facility, where people could visit and stay, into a less expensive one bedroom, then to a single room place in another part of town, all within the last two years. the problem being she out lived her money. When she entered the more luxurious "old age home" people just presumed she'd last few more years, and this place would be her last stop. Almost a decade later she's still going, needs a lot of help, but is almost out of money. Rent for even one dingy room in one of these places can be four times that of a nice 2-bedreoom apartment, and none of these people made the kind of money that can support this lifestyle for more than a half-dozen years let alone 10-20.

As I told my wife, if things look like they're headed that way, make sure I fall down the basement stairs as many times as required.
