I know theres already a thread full of this info, but we sort of hijacked the "Angel of Music Edition" thread to talk about the lost Chaney scenes and the wild claims that have been going about as to Carl Hernz having them.
I am pleased to announce that my exclusive 2 part interview with Carl Hernz is up at http://phantomreviews.pro...ead=400&page=1
Carl Hernz name is a controversial one amongst the silent community. As you may know, a 3D edition of the 1925 movie was in the works, based off a discovery that stereographer Carl Hernz made, namely that there are versions of Phantom from slightly different cameras hidden in prints of the movie all over the world. He found them, matched them and created the closest thing to a true 3D print.
Full details on the discovery, as well as some sample scenes can also be found here - http://www.carmichael3d.com/poto3d.html
What is of particular interest to Phantom fans is that at some point, wild claims started going around that this version would also feature lost footage from the movie - the Graveyard sequence and original ending with Erik dying of a broken heart. The holy grail for Phantom fans, and pretty important to the world of cinema as a whole. But then the stories began to change... claims of Chaney Enterprises involvement was confirmed, then denied.. and crys of "hoax" soon arose. So whats the deal?
Carl Hernz kindly agreed to put the record straight once and for all, so here it is, from the horses mouth. . I cant promise you will like the answers, but they are answers. Hopefully this will clear up the mystery that has been going on all this time. Please dont use the thread to trash Carl, if you dont believe his story then its up to you. I do find his story plausible, and if what he says about the footage is really true ... then DAMN.
