Jul 9 12 4:46 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It's got Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck in the rebooted Battlestar Galactica series as well as appearing in 24), Cassidy Freeman from Smallville, Lou Diamond Phillips and starring an Australian actor named Robert Taylor as Walt Longmire, a sheriff in Wyoming (shot in New Mexico) based on a series of books by Craig Johnson. It's a modern western that got 4.1 Million viewers in it's first episode without much fanfare. It's already renewed for a second season. A lot of TV critics seem to like it too. It's definitely not your average crime drama. I know it's not a sci-fi or horror show but it does have actors and actresses who have appeared on those kind of shows. I started watching because Cassidy Freeman tweeted about its existence. She's not in it much (plays Cady Longmire, Sheriff Walt's daughter), but she will have a more prominent role as things move along. Indeed, renewed for a new season, so catch these....good stuff.

There are a number of newer mystery writers who've used rural areas as settings -- upstate Minnesota, Wyoming, and in this case, Montana. I won't watch it on TV because of the commercials, but I'll buy the season 1 DVD when it's released. ... Reed

I usually don't care much for cop shows, or westerns, but this one definitely reminds me of the years I spent in Denver, and some of the smaller towns up and around the WY boarder. (The pot episode especially seemed very familliar... LOL) Seems like the kind of show my friend, author Ed Bryant, would love. "[The audiance] will populate the darkness with more horrors than all the horror writers in Hollywood could think of. Jul 15 12 5:24 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I really appreciate learning about this show, and have already watched a handful of episodes via Comcast On Demand. Great cast, although I'm not sure what to make of Katee Sackoff (never really checked out her run as Starbuck), I guess she's OK, but something about her performance (or perhaps the way it's been written) that sort of takes me out of the story sometimes. Can't say that about Robert Taylor, another actor I wasn't really (at all) familiar with, as I think he does a terrific job in the title role. Lou Diamond Philips is also very good. I think it's the setting, the Native American elements, and overall tone of the show that makes it such a pleasure to watch. I have to track down the first two to find out what the starting point was (I hate that most channels only make shows available on demand for a short period). All that said this really should have been posted in the Mystery forum, as TV Terrors has really been cluttered recently with non genre shows based on the premise that actors from genre productions were sometimes included in the cast.

Jul 16 12 5:06 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I found the first episode intriguing enough to watch the second--both On Demand, for those who may think the ads threw things off--and, except for the blonde's pole dance sequence (I know, oink oink) was pretty disappointed. Theorized maybe the first was actually the pilot, it got green-lighted and the network said "But we want you to change this, this and this." Whole business about one of his deputies running against him was out the window, their conflict switched to the guy dating Longmire's daughter. And Lou DP's "Indian" vocal affectation sounded like he was aping Zeva (sp?) from NCIS! Maybe the third time/episode will be the proverbial charm, but I'm not exactly racing to the OD menu to view another episode. Definitely wouldn't put it in the same class as Justified...though I was really hoping, after seeing the debut, it would be a real keeper. /\ /\/\ \ \ / \ / \/\/ \ visit www.ManorOnMovies.com A new concept in new concepts

Second A&E's new original scripted drama series LONGMIRE was watched by a record 4.5 million total viewers on Sunday, July 15 at 10:00PM ET/PT. This marked the most-watched premiere episode for the freshman series in its seventh week, against increased competition in the scripted landscape. "Longmire" grew by 10% over the previous week's 4.1 million viewers. "Longmire" is produced by Warner Horizon Television. Hunt Baldwin ("The Closer," "Trust Me") and John Coveny ("The Closer," "Trust Me") wrote the project and serve as executive producers along with Greer Shephard ("The Closer," "Nip/Tuck") and Michael M. Robin ("The Closer," "Nip/Tuck"). Laast weeks epsiode was directed by Peter Weller (who also had a part in the show) and last Sunday Stacy Haiduk (who played Lana Lang on the Salkind's Superboy series) and Gerald McRaney were guest stars.

Jul 18 12 8:29 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I'm really enjoying LONGMIRE. I find the show more interesting than the books, frankly. I love the location (so tired of having nearly every crime show be set in NYC and LA), the country life aspects like rodeos and horses, etc., and the main cast of characters is really starting to gel. Robert Taylor is fantastic as the charismatic lead, and the other cop characters (plus Lou Diamond Phillips) are all good value. The only slight negative for me are the "mysteries of the week," which have had very interesting background elements (Mennonite community, hunting, Indian reservation politics, etc.) but so far have been a bit boilerplate and by-the-numbers. LONGMIRE ain't in JUSTIFIED's class yet, but then it doesn't need to be. It pushes nearly all the right buttons for this longtime western and cop show fan. Just tighten up the MOTW and keep working that fine ensemble (now including recent recurring guest stars like Peter Weller and Gerald MacRaney), along with the beautiful locations, and I'll keep tuning in.
