LOL We began with the terribly low brow comedy idea of somehow making the ultimate "fart joke" movie... (Hey, it worked for Mel Brooks, and even Shakespeare resorted to blue humor at times...) Anyway, along those lines we asked ourselves, "What if a flatulent creature of some sort began to destroy the world via it's emissions? Ha, ha, we thought, that would be funny... but outlandish. Then, less than a week later, came a scientific paper that suggested that the dinosaurs' extinction may have been at least partially caused by their farts adding massive amounts of methane to the atmosphere, contributing to a climate change that wiped many of the larger species out. We took this to be an omen. So we began crafting a story around the idea that man's thoughtless, desperate search for energy is what releases the creature... so we began looking into hydrofracking... a controversial practice which may have been responsible for triggering several earthquakes here in Arkansas... We decided to make our 'zilla based on an American specie of lizard, and settled on the SW Horned Toad... We've scouted this out, rejecting about a half dozen other local caves, to use as the home for our "crazy hermit" who knows all about the legend of "F'zilla." (I think it has a very "Bronson Canyon-ish" vibe to it...) Pictured: Director of the project, Charlie Brady. At the top, the Fartzilla suit under construction... very much in the Paul Blaisdell tradition. Bottom: Mr. John Hankins of Hawaii, who is sculpting and casting the head of our creature, which is vaugely based on the SW American Horned Toad. We've secured permission to shoot several scenes both on her deck and inside on the bridge. All for a modest donation... But she's worth it... TONS of production value for a couple hundred bucks. For the most part, we'll be green screening the monster in to real locations, but the final scenes, which take place at night, in the middle of a city that's become a sea of fire... well, that requires a little more effort... It's honestly amazing what you can do with foam core "presentation boards" some spray glue, and color prints from your computer of "skyscraper textures" culled from image searches! Sep 4 12 9:56 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Some of our initial storyboards for one possible ending of the film... Unfortunately, the guy we usually depend on for doing storyboards, up until recently, had to move away because he got a jood job offer in another state... So, we began experimenting, and hit on the idea of taking stills from other films, and known online image banks, and stitching them together with a little modification, to create a general feeling of how the images would flow.... The images are tacked onto the storyboard with tape, so they can be easily removed, swapped around, or replaced as needed.... Low tech, but it seems to work. It seems "Fifi," the rather famous B-29 owned by the "Warbirds of America," will be in our area on the weekend of the 22nd of this month. This gives us a great opportunity to shoot some second unit stock footage of the bomber rolling out onto the runway and taking off, which we can then use as a lead up to the "atomic bomb" sequence... (essentially patterned after the one in the Pal/Paramount version of "War of the Worlds") The tricky part will be getting the guys to sign the release, and shooting around the nose art, so that she appears to be a standard issue B-29. Sep 17 12 12:41 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	At work on the "film within a film" since we'll need to know the running length and plot points of it, to work into the big confab scene... Similar to the nature film shown by Doctor Medford in "Them!" or that weird thing shown in "Gigantis The Fire Monster"... Here we see some of the dinos, which have been modified to... er... "emit flatus" on cue, waiting for their big moment on screen... The basic set up, in operation.... The joke of this bit in the larger film is that our scientist character has accidentally checked out an "educational" film produced by the Creationist Museum out of Kentucky... and it shows the world as it was when new... 8,700 years ago. Everything was placid and happy for the dinosaurs, but then they discovered gay sex, and gay marriage.... they were cursed by God with the plauge of explosive flatulence, which increased global warming, triggering earthquakes... Some of the dinosaurs escaped into caves where they lay in suspended animation... the rest, no longer in God's favor, died horribly and became fossils in museums. And alter a half dozen other things I made notes on... before we move on to painting... but, the suit itself held together like a champ... only one toe claw came off when she was kicking one of the "buildings."
