I've just discovered the joy of audiobooks through CCprose, a YouTube channel filled with classic literature! After listening to Jeff Wayne's musical version of 'War of the Worlds' for the 593th time this weekend I sought out the audiobook of HG Wells' original novel because I was curious how much the prologues of the two works had in common.
Now I'm not into audiobooks, unlike audiodrama's which I love, in fact - I have a hard time sitting down with a piece of adult literature as it is, I'm ashamed to say. I've tried to sit down with audiobooks before but I never managed to 'get into the flow of things' (see also : Csikszentmihalyi, Mihaly) until now! The narrator who performs this particular version has a rather bland voice and diction, yet somehow after having heard the prologue I started to appreciate his efforts and Well's magnificent tale. Before I knew it 90 minutes had passed and I was still listening, thrilled by Well's suspenseful story.
I highly recommend you check out this channel, there's loads of titles to choose from - Jekyll & Hyde, Sherlock Holmes, Jules Verne...free of charge and ready to be enjoyed! Now if you don't mind, my ears have an appointment with a certain Count Dracula...
