It's not "science fiction," "fantasy," or "horror," but besides being just a tee-rific picture overall, the whole bit with Goodman and Arkin undeniably (and delightfully) stimulated my "monster kid" receptors. I also most heartily second the following suggestions: John Carter (yes it tanked, but it's a great picture) The Hunger Games (yes it's based on a "youth" novel [a damned grim one] but it's a great picture) Skyfall (great to have a Bond picture "feel" like a Bond picture again) The Avengers (I never read the comics but I had a great time with this movie) The Woman in Black (atmosphere, atmosphere, and probably the awesomest-looking spooky house in movie history) Frankenweenie (what Jelly Roll said) Last Edited By: M F Berry Dec 27 12 5:07 PM. Jan 2 13 12:38 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I know we've discussed it a lot around here (shoot, I've discussed it a lot), and I think it's a terrific movie, but it just doesn't seem right to give a nomination for a Horror Film award to SKYFALL. I know the boundaries are very vague, that lots of things are really science-fiction, or fantasy, or "thriller" and not really horror, but there's got to be a line somewhere, doesn't there? SKYFALL is a great flick, but I don't see it fitting into any of those categories in any way, shape, or form. I'd say the same about THE AVENGERS, though you can certainly make a better case for that one. If you want to know what God thinks of money, just look at the people he gave it to. Dorothy Parker

I got to review the Blu-rays for both Franky and John Carter, and loved them both. They are well worth picking up if you haven't already. Lots of great extras. Plus, Frankenweenie has a Gamera tribute in the finale. How can you resist that? During the publicity tour for John Carter I had the chance to sit in on a roundtable wih the archivist and president of the Edgar R. Burroughs estate. Found out some great stuff, including the fact that the estate has all the original paintings for the John Carter novel covers from back in the day. I begged them to do a coffetable book featuring them. They liked the idea. Also, The Haunting Hour is a great show, much creepier than it should be sometimes for a kid's show.
