Jul 4 12 3:21 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I liked the scene where you suddenly see the whole bridge on fire, but the lil'-train-that-could shot was ridiculous, not to mention when Sturgess, the good vamp, does the Superman thing by filling in for a missing rail. I was wondering if they were going to have Lincoln become a vampire so his assassination was actually a good thing - but since you can choose to be a good vamp in this movie, his murder wouldnt have been necessary.

Jul 5 12 1:12 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I liked it. I went in to it just expecting a popcorn flick and it was actually better than just that. The whole Lincoln thing works beautifully. Without hardly any effort from the movie he comes across as iconic and likable - his presence kind of made me think of Indiana Jones. The vampires were awesome. Ferocious, evil, monstrous... The movie had a lot of style. The action scenes were amazing (I particularly liked the bit with the horses). But I was also just constantly caught off guard by how good the movie looked. Lighting, shadows, period pieces, saturated darkness and fog...I don't know how much Burton actually had to do with the film but it had a eye candy element reminiscent of him. I 'll buy the DVD. 7/10

It was entertaining, funny and kind of hokey, like "The Patriot" (esp. the showdown between Mary Todd and the female vampire near the end). And course, my wife and I laughed at the obligatory "Nooooooooooo!" during the over-the-top train scene.

Aug 6 12 7:52 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I expected this to be a farce along the lines of Bubba-Ho-Tep but it was exceedingly earnest, especially in its portrayal of race relations. I wonder if any of those Southern states that insist on flying the Stars and Bars over their state capitols objected to the portrayal of the Confederacy as a bunch of bloodthirsty monsters. The chop-sockey ax-juggling and Zen-master relationship were already overdone when Kung Fu Panda did it. The film took itself so seriously and yet was still nothing but a bizarre genre mash-up like some of the current vampire-and-monster themed TV shows. Last Edited By: n0s4a2 Aug 8 12 4:59 PM. But I guess the concept/execution as a movie just didn't grab the public. The film's first two weekends put it on track to take in $44 million. So far it's accrued $37 million. World wide it's made $74 million. With a budget of $69 million it needs to hit around $140 million to break even.

Oct 14 12 4:49 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Well i finally downloaded this last night........ wow......bad. Way too serious, poorly plotted, slow and just plain boring. As for the 'action' sequences............omg......... that horse stampede scene: where do you begin to explain its stupidity. Believe it or not i actually prefer the Asylum Zombie version. At least that got the tone right. This was just way too up itself to enjoy. That said i did like the analogy of Vampirism (blood sucking) and the reliance of Slavery for the South's survival and the general parasitic nature of it. Then again i am not American so i am not sure of the reaction in the Statres to that part of the film.

Saw it the other night and feel about it like many others. There were some exciting and impressive set pieces but overall it just didn't do much for me. Actually, most impressive to me was the historical re-construction of the time period, the building of the Washington Monument, etc., and the Civil War sequences. In that regard -- scope and spectacle -- it outdid Spielberg's excellent LINCOLN. Also, I thought the lead, Benjamin Walker (?), looked a lot like a young Liam Neeson. This was interesting to me because Neeson was originally to play Lincoln in the Spielberg movie.
