Jun 23 12 9:09 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	As implausible and loopy as the premise is I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It was fun seeing historical figures portrayed in a genre setting. No, I didn't read the novel so everything was a surprise. Screenplay fills in enough character and motivation to make you care but its don't think twice pacing allows for suspension of disbelief as better fantasy films should. Jun 24 12 10:17 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	My wife and I saw it last night and enjoyed it. It was a very truncated version of the novel, and we both wished it had included more. The film has some great action scenes and has enough creepy atmosphere to please the classic horror fan. Best of all, the vampires are truly malevolent and much more monstrous than what we have been given lately on screen. We were also pleased we hadn't wasted the extra money we paid to see it in 3-D. This film actually uses the 3-D to good effect. One has to wonder how this is going to play in the South, though. We live in Louisiana and the theater was almost empty.

Jun 24 12 4:33 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I enjoyed it in Atlanta, GA, though in some ways the Atlanta/Metro are itself is more like a northern city than the rest of the state - the crowd enjoyed some of the kickin' action stuff in particular. I'm a sucker for fantasy/horror in the early Americana setting, and about half the film is set around 1818-1835 or so, thus many interesting bits of historical costuming and the like are shown. The leads are good, and the Underground Railroad gets a part of play which is always cool to see. Mary Todd Lincoln was quite the babe, too!

That is, modern sensibilities and idiom with only a thin veneer of the 1860s? Does it strain credulity with too much CGI like "Van Helsing" or "The Wolfman"? Are the vampires associated with any place or group (ie the Confederacy)?

Jun 25 12 12:09 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	lets be realistic please.who really expected a genre film like abraham lincon vampire hunter to top an mainstream ccgi animated film like brave. a kind of film that usually does the best box office.lets see how it does in the long run.number 2 i think was a movie of the same kind.cgi animmated. less then 3 days is pretty early to decide it is a falure. There is some profanity including an "F" bomb, but that word was in use back then... dialogue came across as mostly modern. Practical cinematography is used for alot of the film, but the vampire faces are often CGI (in roughly the same way they do monster faces on tv's GRIMM, but more fully rendered), and there is a major CGI-fest when Honest Abe goes after a vamp during a horse stampede that is almost all cartoon. The vampires are indeed with the Confederacy... mostly. The person who trains Abe in vampire hunting is a vamp himself, and the idea is that there are vampires all over, it's just that the vampires in the Confederacy are there aiding in the battle for specific reasons.

I liked it a lot! The only thing I didn't care for were the hard rock tracks they mixed in... they could have kept the matrix-crap out of it, and I would have been a lot happier. By the way... did anyone else notice they seem to have deliberately left Abe's famous wart, on his right laugh line, on the cutting room floor? It's hard to believe everyone would be so adept at kickboxing, and the superstrong vampires could always be shook loose. When it's that comic bookish, you stop caring about what's going on and to whom. The only character/actor I actually liked (as opposed to who I was suppose to like) was Speed played by Jimmi Simpson, so I was disappointed he didnt get much screentime. The aged Lincoln (10-20 years later) had a wart on his right laugh line. Otherwise, I enjoyed most of the movie. Philip Jose Farmer wrote alot of alternative history for famous fiction characters, and there's books/movies speculating about real people (like Agatha Christie's disappearance, Sherlock meeting Freud, etc) so I can see a genre evolving into this. When the war is over, we're told the surviving vamps went abroad, but the epilog (set in our time) implies they're creeping back in- the "good" vampire who recruited Lincoln appears to be recruiting again.

Great action sequences with the horse stamped, the vampire ball, and the train sequence at the end of the film. But, suprisingly flat in other areas. Might be the lead actor - but I'm not sure else what he could've done. Ok POPCORN movie but nothing to write home about. I saw it in Real3D. That didn't help it either. "I saw what I saw when I saw it!"

But it soon got too unbelievable, not to mention showing the Vamps have superpowers even during daytime. When did that become the new normal? And sex too (at the beginning)? I did like the idea that they had no reflection because Silver was a weakness for them. I thought the ballroom scene was going to be more "classic" horror instead of Lincoln single-handedly mowing down all the Vamps with Matrix fx(yawn)...until a 90 pound blonde chick incapacitates him with a dining room chair. She must have amazing sitting powers. I wondered if there was any Southern backlash from the idea that they (Jefferson Davis?) would embrace evil and use Vamps. Unlike the Southern soldiers in the Twilight Zone episode "Still Valley" who rejected the Devil. Actor Barry Atwater played the Vulcan in the Abe Lincoln-Star Trek episode (pictured above). Jul 4 12 2:17 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	As some have already said, above, this is an entertaining popcorn film that no one should take very seriously. Some historical elements are correct, many are not, but if you get hung up of the history of this film, you really should move from genre films to documentaries. Production values and acting are very good. The CGI is a bit much in places -- mainly the horse stampede, but the train sequence with the flaming trestle looks pretty darn good. I'll pre-disposed to like anything by the director of Night Watch and Day Watch. ... Reed
